Acting on his training, Brutus lifted his arms to protect his head and block the incoming blow. Mahla's blow connected – it hit hard – harder than the orc could have anticipated. There was a sharp pain in his upper arm as the force of the blow staggered him backwards.
"Shit," he growled, half-in shock and half-in pain. He flexed his arm as he circled around Mahla, testing it for damage. It felt numb, and Brutus hoped it wasn't broken.
He dodged Mahla's second blow, and this time he lashed out with a jab of his own, aiming for the woman's right shoulder...

The armored woman, wearing a wild, fearless grin, did not bother trying to avoid or block the attack, instead almost thrusting her shoulder out to receive it. Brutus felt that its power was dampened, however. It struck heavy, but some of the impact seemed to have been rebounded, pushing his arm back and preventing him from delivering the full force of his weight into the thin warrior's body. As Mahla teetered away, almost bouncing after the blow, white flashed over her gangly form like light crossing glass. She was apparently wearing a skin-tight barrier of some sort.
Stopping her stumble with a heel, the solider of Ustreal ground it into the earth and swung her other leg out, trying to catch her orc opponent in the ribs...!

This time, Brutus hopped backwards to avoid his opponent's bone-breaking blows, then lunged forward in an attempt to catch Mahla while she was off balance. The orc wasn't fast enough. By the time he had regained his own balance from the dodge and pushed himself forward, Mahla had already settled back into her guard. The orc's fist hit the woman's collar bone, but between her guarded stance, her armor and her magical barrier, Brutus's blow did little to affect her.
And it left him wide open to a counter...

Planting her feet, bending her knees, and drawing her elbows against her ribs, Mahla became a stone, heavy and low to the ground; solid and unmoving: a bulwark of stability.
Then, with a crowing laugh, she threw an arm out, hand balled into a fist. It rocketed up towards Brutus, the full strength of her shoulder, her hips- her whole body- behind it...!

For a moment all Brutus's mind registered that he was airborn, before a heavy impact momentarily blacked out his senses. He rolled and bounced across the arena floor, coming to a stop at the very edge.
"Shit..." he sputtered.
Then he felt a sharp stab of pain where Mahla's fist had connected with his chest. "SHIT!" Brutus cried out again, loud enough for his opponent and the audience to hear. He grit his tusked jaws together and hissed in pain as he climbed back to his feet.
Perhaps he had made a mistake.

Cackling, Mahla fell from her rigid stance, assuming a looser, limber one, arms swaying limply and feet dancing across the ground.
"Is that all you have?" she laughed, drilling a heel into the ring. "I will not accept it! Give me more!"
A slurred jeer answered the solider.
"S... Sshut up, you... you mooshe! Sh.. Shtand strong, Bull! Y... You are better than thish, you... you must win!"
Bugbear slumped against the stands, one arm hooked around the protective wall between fighters and audience: it seemed to be all that held him up. The hobgoblin had apparently not been able to properly navigate his way into the spectators' area, simply stopping where he was to watch the match through one eye; the other was caked over by blood.
The sharp crack of metal against stone was all that answered the goblin. With a snarl, Mahla pounced at Brutus, her speed doubling- no, at least quadrupling- as she thrust an armored shoulder at the badly winded orc...!

Brutus acted quickly, sidestepping Mahla's blisteringly fast lunge while his arm came around behind the warrior, pushing her back with such force that the off-balance orc fell on his side. He quickly rolled to his feet and glanced upwards, hoping he had at least redirected Mahla's movement into the arena wall behind him...

Just as Brutus had hoped, Mahla slammed full force into the wall, splintered the solid stone and filling the air with a cloud of dust. It did not, however, slow her down as he wished.
In fact, it hardly seemed to slow her at all.
With a sharp laugh, the solider spun out of haze of debris, blood splattered across her brow in a wild, browning mask. Flipping through the air, the wild warrior suddenly kicked out a leg.
A fist-sized chunk of rubble, once balanced in the hook of her foot like a sporting ball, was launched at the orc's chest as she passed over him..!

Brutus let out a gasp as the stone slammed into his chest with a sickening crack. The burly orc was thrown back off his feet and hit the floor shoulder's first, flipped head over heels, and skidded to a stop on his side, wheezing for air.
The pain didn't set in immediately – only when Brutus tried to climb to his feet did he feel a sharp stab across his chest. He grit his teeth, holding back a scream, and finally rolled over on his back.
"F-fuck..." he managed with a wince, once he got his breath back. Something had definitely broken.

"Oh no!" The announcer's voice called out. "Despite Brutus's best efforts, Mahla has taken everything he could offer, and now he's suffering severe injuries! This fight is as good as done for poor Brutus! Mahla is your winner!"
From the sides, Leech Lass watched on with a curious gaze. This Mahla... she definitely seemed to be, as one of her servants had once used the term, "An unstoppable object." Barely anything had seemed to phase her. Was she, perhaps, the strongest other combatant in this tournament?
The thinest traces of a smile crept on her face. Ryvaan had been somewhat fun to play with, but the use of magic to keep up had somewhat soured the experience at the end, especially the burns. Instead, perhaps someone as naturally strong as Mahla could be a better partner to play with.
To either side of her, Prima and Krepie had watched the match closely. Prima leaned behind Leech Lass to whisper into her sister's ear. "She's strong, yes?"
"Very. Naturally strong."
"Strongest of the three left?"
"Probably. Yet, also seems dumbest. Easiest for us to take down."
"Why are we whispering? Is this a secret conversation?" Leech Lass's voice reached the other two, to both mermaid's annoyance and shock.

Landing lightly on her feet, Mahla gave a half-hearted smirk at the announcement. She turned her wolfish eyes on Brutus.
"Learn to stand after you break," she told the orc. Her smile grew a bit. "Then find me. We can have a good fight yet."
Meanwhile, on the sidelines, Bugbear howled in outrage. "THAT'S PROBABLY ILLEGAL! REFEREE, DISQUALIFY HER!"

Ryvann visibly winced from the savage blow to Brutus. Damn... she was lucky she hadn't suffered a blow like that in her fight. She wouldn't have taken it half as well as the orc had...
Meanwhile, the referee looked to Bugbear and huffed. "Quit yer bellyachin'. S'within the rules. He'll be fine."
