"Th-thank you..." the young girl replied to Phanna, holding Stella close to her for comfort...
______
Ryvann nodded in reply to the woman. "I shall do my best. I, too, hope you put on a good display today. After all, an arena that lacks entertainment is just a prison with extra steps."

Phanna stopped as the last word left the Bear's mouth. She glared in his direction, and her orange eyes seemed to reignite with intensity in the candlelight. Her tail swished behind her, bumping into the legs of nearby tables. She nearly opened her mouth to reply when her ears flicked back: Rachel's quiet thanks had reached her ears.
This seemed to calm her. Phanna's tail fell limp as she continued back towards the chaise, settling back into the cushions with her grapes.
A large, rough hand fell on Bugbear's shoulder. "Better pray yer not meet'n her 'n the arena," Brutus told him.

The hobgoblin threw his head back and laughed. "You underestimate me, dear Bull. I hope we do! Then this ginger wabbit will see where her place truly is!"

Prima couldn't help but smirk. The goblin was stupidly confident. Did he have the bite to bark up his bark? She doubted it, but it was better to be careful, as Krepie said.
Yet before she could say anything, the tall blue haired woman walked back with another full plate of the sweetest food from the table. "But, she's not a rabbit. She's a... goat? lamb? What was it her kind were called again... oh right, faun! She's as much a rabbit as you are a frog. And, last I checked, rabbits eat frogs."
The presence of the tall woman immediately caught both of the twin's attentions. From beneath her robes, Krepie's eyes narrowed. Something about the woman seemed... weird, and off putting. What exactly it was, she had no idea, but-
She then noticed that Prima had gone silent. "Hey, Krepie?" She finally said. "Does she... seem familiar to you? I'm getting goosebumps looking at her, and I can't figure out why. Just looking at her is pissing me off"
Krepie could only shake her head. Prima didn't care about anyone else here, but this woman... why did she seem to set her on edge? Was it how freakishly large she was?

As suddenly as the group had gathered, the time had come for them to prepare for battle. A large, grey-skinned figure, clearly of the same race as Brutus albeit much older, thumped through the entrance of the tent, gripping a gnarled wooden stave tightly in his ironclad grasp. Thin white hair hung around the orc's head, and a scraggly pair of white sideburns ran along the orc's cheeks. The orc seemed to be very heavily scarred; one of the orc's tusks had been visibly ripped out of his gums and through his lower lip, leaving a nasty scar that exposed the inside of his mouth. The other tusk was old and gnarled, with visible knicks and scratches in it. The orc walked with a limp due to one of his legs being replaced with a rather crude peg leg. "A'ight," the grizzled orc said, dusting off the white and black striped robe he wore loosely across his scarred chest, "Time to start linin' up. Fight's'll be startin' soon." The orc turned to look at Phanna, then the hobgoblin. "Phanna. Bugbear. You two're up first."
Ryvann observed the orc with curiosity and a twinge of fear. Hopefully he didn't get those scars from fighting in the arena... Nevertheless, she had to prepare for the fights that were to come. She was here for the tournament; no point in backing out now.
Rachel, on the other hand was quite visibly shaken. Thoughts of how and why he looked so badly scarred ran through her head, and none of them were good.
"Calm down, Rachel," Stella stated in a comforting tone. One of her leaves reached up and caressed the girl's cheek. "It'll all be okay."

Phanna set her unfinished grapes down on the table beside her as she slid off the chaise. Her blazing eyes met the hobgoblin for a moment, but she said nothing to him as she made her way towards the entrance. Giving the orc a silent nod as she passed him, the faun spread her muscular arms into the air as she left the tent to greet her audience. As she made her appearance, there was a thunderous cheer from crowd beyond the canvas that shook the plates on the tables within the tent.
Brutus chuckled darkly. "Shouldn't'a pissed her off, Bugbear."

"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!" A voice boomed through the arena, from speakers positioned around the courtyard. "Thank you all for your patience, each and every last one of you! We're sorry for the technical delays in tonight's event, but rest assured, we got all that fixed out nice and well! For tonight, we have not just the return of our reigning champion here in the Xue Club, but a special fighter with a style never before seen!"
Lights flashed through the courtyard, before they focused down on one specific fighter. "As tonight's opening act, we're not pulling any punches! He's fierce, he's feisty, and he's got a lot to prove. Put your hands together, and cheer on for a special brand new guest, BUUUUUUGBEEEEEEEAR!"

Bugbear laughed mockingly before thrusting his face close to Brutus's. "Bears do not fear widdle wabbits. A bull should know this. Before long, it is me who you will warn others about, great bull."
The hobgoblin had twisted his stout, ugly head to smirk at the orc as he exited the tent, but turned to face the hollering crowd before he was fully visible to the public. Those seated inside had been allowed to flood the exterior of the courtyard. Many booed, jeering or shouting insults at him, but others cheered, bellowing thing such as, "Bring her down!" or "Get her, Bugsy!" The masked goblin's antics were well known in the area, so he was not popular by any means, but there were always those who wanted to see the champion fall. Bugbear roared back at the hecklers, his fanged mouth making a hideous O-shape, and pointed encouragingly at his supporters, his curled nails finding them with surprising quickness and ease.
As the hobgoblin came shoulder-to-shoulder with Phanna, sneering spiteful up at her as, the stonework before them began to shudder. A green glow rose up, forming a rectangle that was easily forty by thirty-five feet. Like clay, it began to mold itself, sinking down and forming a perfectly squared off pit at least fifteen feet in height- or rather, depth. It was normally only ten feet deep, but the tremendous size of the bone-clad woman seemed to have encouraged modification.
As the pit solidified, returning to the hardness of stone, the emerald light faded, its last remnants forming a steep set of stairs on the side closest to Phanna and Bugbear...

"Quite the reception for our first fighter..." the announcer boasted, "but now, ladies, gentlemen, and those of unspecified gender, it's time for his opponent! You all know her, you may love or hate her, but 99% of the audience respects her skills. She's the people's champion, the Greatest of All Time, she is the SCAAAAAARLET RAAAAAAAM!"

The faun, stepping down the steep stairs and into the pit below, lifted her fists into the air to greet the roar of the audience. Although she had hecklers of her own, she paid them no attention. Then, with the grace well known of the fey, the faun leaped off the last half of the steps and landed lightly on the floor below. Phanna twirled on her hooves to the cheers as if dancing to music, then backed into her corner of the pit as she waited for Bugbear.
She lowered her arms to her sides as the crowd grew quiet, stretching them out behind her back and allowing her muscles to strain in sight of both the crowd and Bugbear. Her entrance seemed to have put Phanna back in a good mood as she watched Bugbear with a confident smirk.

Bugbear made to follow his rival, his chin held high and his chest puffed out, but a small voice interrupted him.
"Sir," a tiny woman with inky hair that fell around her shoulder greeted politely, approaching the hobgoblin with a weapon rack. Rather than being carried or pulled on wheels, it seemed to float behind her, outlined in green light. Her hand too glowed in the same verdant hue. "Our handler has decided this match-up enables you to have a weapon. Pick whatever you would like."
Bugbear scowled, both at the suggestion that he had a disadvantage and the fact that the weapons appeared to be made of wood, but his mood improved when he saw one of his choices was a sword longer than he was tall. Removing it from the rack, the goblin threw it over his shoulder and strode after Phanna, hacking out a few boastful laughs for the crowd.
"Ready to lose, widdle wabbit?" he asked at the faun.

The faun, who was crouched low on one knee in the midst of stretching her long but muscular legs, met his eyes with her own. She rose up to her full height when she was ready, watching her rival descend the steps as her tail swept behind her.
"Ladies first."

The burly form of the scarred, elderly orc thumped into the middle of the two warriors. His reddish-hued eyes scanned from one side to the other before he spoke.
"A'ight, you know the rules of battle I'd hope, newbie," the orc growled, eyes glaring at Bugbear. "But in case y' don't. I'll give you the lowdown. No eye gougin', no throwin' your opponent outta the arena, no strikin' the loins, no strikin' the head or back of your foe, no breakin' or removin' limbs, no fish hookin', an' no removin' a' armor or clothes. Goal a' each fight's to incapacitate, so act to the best a' your ability t' end the fight quickly."
The orc rears to his full height, tapping his staff on the ground. "I'm lookin' for a nice, clean fight between the two a yas."
The orc raised up his staff, turning his gaze to the announcer's box, before speaking loudly, "the two of'em's is ready."

From the announcer box, the voice blared out, "Easy, clean rules to understand for the opening act! The rookie vs the champion! Whudda thunk it'd be our opener?!"
The announcer cleared their throat. Their voice was loud and energetic, with a playful tone to it. "You all paid for the full seats your in, BUT YOU ONLY NEED THE EDGE! LET'S MAKE SOME NOISE! BUGBEAR VS THE SCARLET RAM! IN THE NAME OF THE GREAT ONE, FIIIIIIGHT!"

Bugbear huffed, raising the wooden sword from his shoulder and twisting his clawed hands around its hilt in a tight grip. Despite the weapon's length, it was easy to wield for the burly braggart.
"If you insist, mannish wabbit," the hobgoblin grunted vainly.
With that jeer, the goblin began his approach. He closed the distance slowly and stooped low, focusing all of his power into his lower body. After a few halfhearted feints to the side, the hobgoblin lunged forward, swinging the sword at Phanna's neck.
He stopped short however, for this was also a feint. Advancing with a knee thrust forward, Bugbear tried to strike the faun's shoulder with the crossguard and leave her vulnerable to a knee strike to the body...!

Though she fell for the feint, Phanna dodged to Bugbear's left with an impressively quick and graceful leap, managing to avoid the hobgoblin's true strike in the process. The agile faun twirled away as if in a dance – a show for the crowd – and lashed out with her tail towards the back of Bugbear's ankle as she spun, looking to throw off his balance.

Bugbear roared and dropped heavily onto the knee he had planned to strike Phanna with. Normally, his goblinoid bulk would be enough to anchor him against such a blow, but he had already been off balance, so he crumpled easily this time.
The hobgoblin was not one to suffer quietly though. With a howl- quite literally an impression of the enormous tawny wolves that stalked the wilderness around Sund- he swung his sword back in a arc back at the faun, trying to trip her as well.

"What a flurry of action! Bugbear tries to fake out the champion, but the Scarlet Ram is too experienced to fall for it! She's dancing around his hits like the greatest fae ballerina, and she already has seized the upper-hand against Bugbear!" The announcer shouted. "Bugbear,s not out yet, and he's not going down without a fight!"

The Scarlet Ram jumped high over Bugbear's swing, almost tucking her legs against her chest as the wooden sword passed beneath her. Landing in front of the hobgoblin, Phanna reached out to seize his sword-arm before he could attempt another swing.

Bugbear, too winded by his reckless swing to avoid the grab, was seized firmly by the champion and left unable to use his weapon. He gave a bestial growl and attempted to headbutt the faun. Due to the height difference, he had to quite literally leap up at her, his brow thrust forward...
