"That is what my eyes saw," Baerbel answered. "But they are damon. All you humans seem averse to me. But you more than most. You looked as if I had confessed a crime. I assume you are inexperienced."

Cheeks now completely red, Vesyka nodded again. "I have... I have never... had it."

"It seems to me you do not want to. Or you do not want to with me. Which I cannot fault you for. Not all are so open, human or otherwise. It has merely been a while and you seemed accepting."

"I.."
Vesyka stopped for a moment as she thought carefully about how to describe what she was feeling. It was even harder than when she was forced to translate her thoughts to Adra through expressions and pictures.
"I would like to save it for someone that is very... very special," she decided.

"I see. I am not so particular. The damon are not. We see it as a tool, not a product of love."
The tail of the so-called demon curled into an inquisitive loop.
"Have you been in this city long? I wonder about its openness. I have not been sated since visiting Sund to the far north."

"I... think that each person in this city is very different," Vesyka said. "Yes, there are very many cultures here, and many are very different from each other. Oh, perhaps you will find someone in the royal baths! My friend tells me they do not often wear clothes there."
Vesyka silently hoped that Kyra didn't have plans to go to the baths any time soon.

"A bath? I see. Thank you."
Baerbel noted the name down to seek out or ask about later. Then she looked down at her gray-white white coat.
"I could use a scrubbing anyway. I take it there is no chance we will see each other there."

"Oh, my friend has also asked me to join her, but I would not feel comfortable surrounded by strangers without clothes."
Looking down at her own body, Vesyka noticed the dust that was still all over her skin and clothes.
"I am sorry. I must get going. I am supposed to bring food and spare clothing for my friend."

"Very well. Perhaps I will see your friend instead then." The damon began walking towards her room. "If she is someone who would have me, please tell her."

"O-oh..." Vesyka went quiet. Her voice was little more than a whisper. "But..."
She found herself backpedaling towards the stairs. "But..."
Then she hurried down without looking back.

Dark, bronzy eyes watched a silver head of hair bounce down the stairs. Finding her room number, Baerbel unlocked the door with the keys given to her and pushed it open.
"Strange girl," she noted before heading in, door clicking shut behind her.

As Vesyka descended the flight of stairs, she noticed that Barina was focusing on her laptop screen. For but a brief moment, she might have noticed that the woman's right eye was twitching, until she noticed Vesyka. THen in that moment her entire demeanor changed, back to the placid, gentle persona she had first seen.
"Do you need something else?" Barina asked. Any possible hint of annoyance or frustration that may have been there before was completely gone, at least from where Vesyka could see. "Anything I can help you with?"
From where Victor was seated, however, he could clearly see that behind and beneath the front desk, Barina's left hand was gripped tightly against the wood, and her fingernails were slowly digging trenches into the furniture...

"O-oh." Vesyka stumbled in her response. She was still a little shaken. "Oh, no thank you, madame. I am only going out to get dinner and clothing for my friend. I will be back very soon."

"Dinner and clothes... I wish I could go for some but... apparently it's become dangerous outside." Barina told Vesyka. "Be careful out there, and try to return safe."
Victor, on the other hand, merely rolled his eyes.

Dangerous? Vesyka considered the word for a moment and looked outside. Night hadn't fallen yet. Vesyka was certain that she could be back before nightfall, before predatory individuals took to the streets. Still, it wouldn't hurt to be cautious.
"Thank you for the warning," Vesyka told Barina, smiling. "I promise I will be back safe and sound."

"Please do. Word is there's an assassin lurking the city, a short hooded woman from the sound of it. She attacked a couple guards a few hours ago and slipped away. Also... small pets and a few children have been found dead over the past few days in alleyways killed by giant ravens. Warnings have been issued and Mival's security force are trying to handle the situation but... it's better to be safe than sorry."

"...Children?"
The small woman was no longer smiling.
"I... see. Thank you for the warning."
Vesyka almost tripped over her shoes as she hurried out, keeping her eyes on the sky. Although it was likely the ravens were only looking for food, she made a silent conviction to relocate any raven she saw far away from Mival...

Barina waited until Vesyka was out the door. Once she had left, the woman's fist tightened into a ball, and she slammed it against the counter. The wood splintered under the impact.
"Victor... isn't bestiality punishable by death?"
The man in question looked up from his laptop screen. "In the capital, yes. I'm not sure if it applies here. I'd have to ask-"
Another fist impact caused the desk to shudder. " Well, it very clearly should be... because that... that THING wants what I want."
Even though the smile she had before was still there, her voice had become extremely low, deeper than Victor's own, and unusually quiet. She's too cute and innocent to be defiled by a primate. And if that thing is a demon or damon or whatever, then you're the next in line for the throne."
"Please, your flattery of me is too much for me. And you know, if you hate the.. .daemon so much for trying to steal your next waifu, why not just pin the assassin on her?"
Barina's face twisted in that moment into a spiteful, hateful gaze upon her co-worker. Her fist was clenched so tight, blood was now dripping from her hand onto the desk itself. "...You know, I really hate that you got the brains in the family." She then planted her head into the desk, and began to cry.
Victor smirked. "No matter what, some things remain the same." He shrugged, and looked back on his laptop. Maybe a few of his old friends back at the HK city were still up for some Cards Against Inhumanity...
