It took a moment for Vesyka to muster a reply. Her pale cheeks had flushed a bright pink.
"O-oh," she said, her voice trembling with each syllable. "Um, we... w-we need two separate beds. And... a-and a bath, please."

Though the cloaked specter behind Vesyka said nothing, an intense stare could be felt emanating from the faceless figure. It was focused on Victor.

"Victor, now you've upset the guests!" Barina moaned. "Leave... Just, let me handle this."
"I'll let you." Victor grunted, as he turned and walked into the back room. With him gone, Barina let out a long sigh. "Again, sorry about that. As for your room..."
She shifted over to an open laptop and began to click through. "There we go. Room 101, first door on the right if you go up the stairs. Double bed one bathroom with seperate shower and bath. No television in there, but plenty of novels, some contributed from our local library, and a second floor view down through the city. Would this be acceptable?"

"Oh, yes." With Victor's absence Vesyka seemed to have grown more confident in herself. She dug into her pockets for mites. "It is perfect! Oh... how much will it be?"

"5 mites for the night." Barina stated. "And five for each subsequent night."

Vesyka counted out ten mites and handed it to Barina. "Thank you very much," she told her.

Barina nodded, and reached out beneath the desk. Her hand came up with a key, small and silver in color. "There's your room key. I hope you enjoy your stay here, and again, I deeply apologize for the behavior of my fellow clerk."

"Oh, it is alright." Vesyka risked a smile as she took the key in a delicate hand. "He is young. He is still learning."

"Yes... yes he is." Barina shook her head. "But that's my burden to shoulder, and I'll make sure it doesn't affect either of you during your stay here."
She smiled. "If you have any questions or concerns, please use the phone in your room. I'll be here to answer it, and be of service."

"Thank you!" Vesyka said again, this time with a genuine smile as she lead Adra towards the stairs.
"I think that went very well!" she told the taller woman as they climbed the stairs. This new surge of confidence had swept Vesyka off her feet, and it rather felt like she was being carried up the steps on an invisible cloud. "I do not know why I was so nervous. I feel very silly."

The dark eyes of the strange, towering girl seemed more mournful than usual. She had not understood the specifics of the exchange at the counter, but there was at least one thing she suspected she grasped.
Did Vesyka find it hard to talk to people too?
Catching the silver eyes of the shorter woman, Adra mimed speaking before clamping her long, bone-like fingers across her mouth. She tilted her head afterwards to emphasis that she was asking a question.

Barina waited until the two had ascended up the stairs. Once she was certain they were out of line of sight and earshot, she tapped the floor with the back of her heel once, then twice. From the back door came back out Victor.
"Well, that went fast. I was expecting you to strike up a conversation with them." Victor mused. "Just so you could enjoy their appearance and presence."
Barina's sweet smile began to degrade, the edges drooped and the lower lip hung slightly agape as drool began to drip down. "It was tempting. That short one... She's so cute, it should be illegal. She was just... I almost want to keep her for myself and not report her to the boss."
"And not the tall one?" Victor took his seat beside her. "I mean, short's your preference but-"
"Why even bother with the tall one? She ain't human. Any idiot with half a brain would realize that. Send her back for the breeding farms for all I care. But that small one... It's so damn hard to resist the urges, Victor."
"And now we reached TMI status again." Victor rolled his eyes. "Honestly, being the fall guy so you can satisfy your urges incognito... I doubt this is what the boss had in mind when he asked us to be here."
"It wasn't, but you're not the one wearing the pants here." Barina threw one leg over the other, and leaned back. "Now, if more people show up to rest, that would make me a happy camper, because then I wouldn't have to give up such a sweet cute thing to the higher ups..."

It took Vesyka a moment to understand what Adra was asking, but she nodded once she had figured it out. As they made their way towards their room she struggled to think of a way to explain to Adra that she liked people – loved people, even – but was always afraid they would treat her poorly. Perhaps she would be able to paint an explanation later, once she had access to her painting supplies.
Vesyka unlocked the door to their room and allowed Adra to enter first. The interior was small, with just enough room for two twin beds, a small table with chairs, and a desk. She was disappointed to find that there was no kitchen, she had been hoping to cook a hot meal for Adra.

Adra had a strange look on her face as she flicked her hood off. It was somewhere between a sneer and a grimace, mouth open and lips curled, yet eyes wide. Squinting at it, it might resemble a smile. With some imagination of course.
With surprising giddiness, the strange, sullen girl plunged into the room and plopped onto on the nearest bed. It had been a long time since she slept on a proper mattress. Stretching her long legs out as she laid down, she was even more delighted to find that she fit entirely on it. It was a tight fit to be sure, less than half a foot of empty space past her feet, but it was more than Adra enjoyed even back in her own apartment. Between this and the fact she had not struck her head on the door frame or had to duck into the room, it seemed the average person either on this continent or in this city was taller than in Arken.
Suddenly laying up, the girl slid off the bed and walked to stand against the wall. She seemed embarrassed, her body language and expression for which Vesyka was becoming familiar with from sheer volume of exposure.
"Qoid ves?" she asked in her low, androgynous voice. Her black eyes moved between the two beds. She was apparently offering Vesyka first choice.
-
A few minutes after the small, silver-haired girl and her tall, hooded companion had left, another short figure approached the reception desk. This figure was somehow even more petite, though that was only where the difference begun.
"I would like a room," a high, scratchy voice asked, vaguely like a screech or squawk.
The person standing before the desk was more monkey than man- or woman rather, as her curves were quite female- with a face that sloped and pooched to a greater extent than any human one did. She was also buck naked, though the coarse, pale fur that covered most of her body kept her from being blatantly indecent. Even her face was framed by thick, off-white hair. The closest she had to bangs was a long set of sideburns. Her body, while small, was robust, its squatness suggesting a great deal of compressed power. A bare tail flicked restlessly behind her. The only accessory she carried was a satchel that made jostled and clinked with the distinct sound of colliding mites.

"A room for you of co-"
Barina stopped as her eyes drifted down to the small female figure that had appeared. This... This wasn't even a human who showed up, less so than the giant with the cute girl. This was straight up a monkey, a monkey that could talk. Her right eye began to twitch. "Um, well.."
"What is it? Another of your prefered- WHAT THE?!" Victor looked over as well, and he sat slack jawed at the new arrival. "I... I don't know what the rules say about letting animals in..."
"VICTOR!" Barina had managed to recover from the shock to resume her role, and now she glared over at her fellow helper. "That's not how we treat our guests! In the back room please! I don't need more of your insensitive remarks!"
"Fine, whatever. Let me know if you need a banana or two." Victor stood up, and walked out into the back room again. Once he left, Barina turned back to the newcomer.
"I'm so sorry. Please ignore him, he's... new here and still learning to have a filter over his mouth." She sighed. "A-anyways, you needed a room? How long were you thinking for, and just for you? Any specific requirements?"

"Oh, do not worry. You can have that one," Vesyka told Adra with a smile, patting the untouched bed with her hand to gesture her choice. She noticed her hand left the fair residue of dust. She still needed to get clean.
"Oh, of course!" she said suddenly, racing around the taller girl towards the bathroom. "You have probably not showered while you were in the marsh. Would you prefer to go fist?"
Remembering suddenly that Adra might not be able to understand her, Vesyka waved her over to the bathroom and turned the tap on in the shower, gesturing to the falling water, then to the dirt on her own skin, and finally to Adra.

Adra nodded, but paused halfway to the bathroom. She looked down at herself and tugged her clothes questioningly.
-
"One night. One bed."
The creature's voice was steady, but her twitching brow and the thumping of her tail on the floor proved she was angry.

Barina nervously chuckled as she slid back over to the laptop. "Yes, we have such a room available and open for you. 104, third on the right just before the laundry machines. That will be five mites for the night, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your stay here. Again, I'm deeply sorry for my coworker's comments."

"That is right," Vesyka nodded as she stared at Adra's clothes, then down at her own. "We do not have any spares..."
She gazed up at the ceiling, thinking. They had seen a washing machine in the hallway on their way to the room. That would clean their current clothes, but what would they wear in the meantime?
Turning off the tap and moving out of the bathroom, Vesyka took a pen and a sheet of paper and leaned over the desktop as she began to quickly sketch out her plan: an image of Adra in the shower and herself in a market. It was followed by a third image of herself carrying two pairs of clothes, and handing one to Adra. Unlike her earlier drawings in the dirt, the level of detail she put into the quick sketch was impressive – anything less and Vesyka worried that her drawn message would be lost in translation.
Turning around, she passed her hastily, yet carefully sketched message. "By the time you are finished in the shower, I will be back!" she told the taller girl.

Adra nodded carefully, as if she were afraid of damaging the piece of paper between her long, knobby fingers. She was impressed by the woman's artistic skills, but she did not know how to express as much.
Silently, she lamented her own lack of skill. Art seemed to be the only way she could communicate with the silver-haired girl, but she feared she was holding them back.
Perhaps she would spend time before evening better trying to express herself to Vesyka with the paper they now had.
-
The small humanoid produced the requested five mites from the satchel resting on her chest. She set them down before Barina wordlessly before turning, tail nearly slapping the desk, and walking towards the stairs.
