"I.. Uh, I hope you have a good night!" Barina called after the humanoid. She watched the figure ascend up the stairs, and once she was certain she was out of sight and earshot range, she once again tapped her heel against the floor.
"So, how did it go?" Victor asked as he poked his head out the back room.
"You may want to lock the door to the room tonight. I tried but... be careful."
"I figured as much." Victor shook his head. "So will you be keeping an eye on our new guest?"
Barina tilted her head over in his direction. "Why would I? That's your fault, so you keep tabs. Besides, I got actually important stuff to handle." She changed the feed on the laptop to that of what was going on in Vesyka's room, and the smile that had been on Barina's face had degraded once again into the half open, drooling form from before. "Main room feed, and shower feed. I get to keep an eye on this shy little cutie pie."
Victor walked back to his seat, and opened his laptop. "And to think the reason we're even here on this assignment is because of your behavior. Some things never change with you, no matter what else does."
" Maybe the hallway feed as well... Keep all three open, and see if the good stuff rolls in..." Barina now had her face nearly planted into her laptop screen.
Victor shook his head and looked away. Was this really what hell was like?

After counting out the mites in her pocket, Vesyka gave Adra a final smile before making her way towards the door. In addition to clothes, Vesyka made a mental note to find some hot food for Adra as well. Without a kitchen for which to cook or bake, she hoped there was a take-out restaurant nearby.
"Bye Adra," she told the taller woman. She pointed to the clock, standing up on her toes to tap the number one hour before the shorter hand. "I will be back by the hour."
She smiled as she made her way into the hallway.

Although Adra was dimly nervous about being left alone, a large part of her felt relief. She was still uncomfortable being undressed around others even if they were separated by walls or doors. She knew little of the normal female, but could at deduce that hers was... strange.
Entering the bathroom- and locking the door behind her, even though she knew she was alone- the tall, thin girl began to strip off her uniform, starting with the outer, armored layer. The hard, magic-resistant plates on the vest and sleeves would fare poorly in the wash, so she would wash them by hand in the sink before Vesyka returned and hang them to dry somewhere. Maybe the shower itself.
When she began to peel off the rest, Adra could not help but glance into the mirror, and was greeted by the same sight as always.
Broad shoulders, more like those of a man than a girl.
A flat, taut chest, completely devoid of any topology.
Almost subconsciously, she traced a mark on her left bicep: a long, pale scar. It was one of the things she disliked least about herself. It reminded her, even if it did not look so, she was at least half human.
-
Still irritated at her treatment by the male receptionist, the talking primate paid little attention as she walked up the stairs.
As a result, she nearly collided with the petite, silver-haired woman that emerged from the first door.
"Excuse me," she said, stopping just short of the strange-looking human.

"Oh! I am so sorry." Vesyka pressed her back against the wall to allow the stranger to pass. It took a second for her to notice to dense fur that covered the guest's body and the long tail that trailed out behind her. At first she mistook it for a miniature varul, but the guest's head seemed more like an ape's.
"Excuse me?" Vesyka was about to ask the guest what she was, but she immediately decided against it. She didn't want to come off as rude.
Instead, she asked, "Where are you from?"

The tail of the creature thumped the ground again, though this time in amusement. This one was polite.
"Do you mean on this continent or originally?"
She did not smile and her voice remained flat, but it was thinner, lighter, freer of judgement, compared to when she had been at the reception desk.

"Oh, I suppose I mean both," Vesyka said. Her eyes were now looking over the newcomer up and down. "I have not ever seen someone like you before."

“I am not surprised,” the creature replied in her screechy voice. “In this place, my people live in the hostile northeast, where two wastelands meet. One clan on the side of a volcano near an island ruled by a madman. Another among the rocks overseen by a flying serpent.”
Her tail curled behind her as if recoiling in distaste as she noted the difference between the groups.
“We are the damon,” she continued. “Though in your tongue I believe we would be, ‘demons.’ Our homeland is a place called Daiheimt. It was much like where the Schwerzi- forgive, those who chose to live near the sea dwell. Volcanic.”

"You do not seem quite as scary as demons that I have seen in pictures," Vesyka noted. "They have wings and horns and – oh."
Her pale cheeks flushed red and she forced her eyes back up. It was only now that it occurred to her that despite her fur, this damon wasn't wearing any clothing.
"It is very nice to meet you," Vesyka said quickly, trying to switch the subject before the guest noticed. "I am Vesyka."

“A misconception shared by the humans we lived alongside,” the damon explained. “Our leaders wear ornaments. Costumes. Many have wings. But the rest of us wear no clothes as you can see.”
The bare face of the bipedal primate tilted at Vesyka’s redness. “Does my body embarrass you? Also, I am Baerbel. Adar if you prefer.”

"O-oh, no, I am not embarrassed," Vesyka lied. She remembered what Kyra has said once about 'body shaming', and didn't want to make Baerbel feel uncomfortable or unwanted. "I am sorry... I was only taken by surprise. I have had a very long day, and I did not realize that you were wearing no clothes until it was too late."
She wrung her hands together, hoping this newcomer wouldn't be angry with her. "It is very nice to meet you, Baerbel."

“I take it as a compliment,” Baerbel clarified. “It means you are seeing me as a person. Not an animal.”
The damon punctuated her statement by slapping the floor with her tail.
The short humanoid cocked her head once more. The corners of her mouth raises some. “Or perhaps you see me as a woman, Vesyka?”

"Oh, yes," Vesyka nodded. Her brows furrowed. "But I do not understand the difference. Women are still very much people, right?"
She lowered her eyes. "I am sorry there are others who treat you as an animal. That is not very fair."

“It is,” agreed Baerbel, though the tone in which she did so suggested thinking of it as an unfortunate yet unavoidable truth rather than a tragedy. “And forgive. It seems I was too indirect. It is much more damon to be clear, so I shall. I was asking if you find me attractive. I would like to have sex with you if you felt the same.”

Vesyka froze.
Her lips opened, but she couldn't respond. She felt the warmth instantly return to her face. The rest of her body had gone cold, however, like a clammy blanket of frost that weighed her down and rooted her in place. Even her chest had gone rigid in her shock. It was difficult to breathe.
Soon her shock faded, replaced by a sudden rush of fear that took hold of every fiber of her body. No. No! This wasn't right! They had only just met! Vesyka tried to force herself to speak, but only a tiny whimper escaped her mouth. That failing, she started to shake her head frantically.
"I-I c-can't!" she finally squeaked. "I-I must get dinner f-f-for my f-friend!"

Baerbel replied far more calmly than Vesyka. “Very well. I should go as well. I have traveled a long ways and rested little. We shall part now, Vesyka. I hope this is not our last time to speak.”

Vesyka could only manage a tiny nod in reply. Her feet still anchored her to the floor, despite her mind screaming at her to hurry downstairs.
Swallowing, Vesyka focused inwards, concentrating on her breathing to ground herself.

Baerbel, who had begun to move past Vesyks and towards her room upon bidding her farewell, paused, turning towards the girl.
"Are you alright?" she asked, mouth curling downward a bit. "I have seen many reactions to that question. This one is... unique."

As she exhaled, Vesyka felt the cold pressure that had paralyzed her lift off her shoulders. She gave another small nod.
"I am... okay," she told Baerbel. Her voice was even softer than usual, and she did not meet the damon's eyes. Even though her breathing techniques had brought her back under control, Vesyka's cheeks were still pink. "I am sorry. I was very surprised."

"As you say," the damon replied, though she did not sound convinced. "I was going to ask you tell me if you decided otherwise, but do not concern yourself. You seem to have a violent aversion to sex."

"I... I do?" Pale cheeks flushed even brighter, but her eyes glazed over as a certain thoughtfulness came over her. Was that true? She didn't often think about sex, but her mind wasn't entirely free from it either – particularly when her mind wandered in the late hours of the evening. And yet all the same, the very idea of it sent her heart beating into overdrive, and she had actively forced her subconscious to suppress such thoughts before, especially with a certain someone. Was she really so averse to it?
