"I will be back then," Baerbel informed the others before disappearing into the side room.
Cipo, despite excitedly shivering under Kyra's caressing, maintained a composed face and looked towards the city guards. "Is the mainland usually so busy? I come from an island to the south. It is not eventless there, but never so hectic as this."

The room Baerbel was lead into was small, with only a small pool of water and three long tables that surrounded it. The tables were three feet off the ground and six feet long, and just wide enough for an average size person to lay on. More angelic statues adored the corners of the room, with the angels of varying shapes and poses. SOme were more human in proportion, while others resembled what one might attribute to the likes of Cupid. Dumriel stood by the nearest table.
"P-please, take a seat and lay so I can examine your wounds." She asked.

"Talking... ravens..."
Micah's voice was low, and she looked down at the water. Last night... So it had been real. She had seen and encountered them. She had hoped it was but a bad dream that got mixed in with the rest of the night, yet her fears weren't allowed to die so easy.
"We've heard reports of big aggressive ravens around the city, but to think they actually talk... or that they're trained." Chalodna mused. She had come here to relax, not get stressed over work, and yet that was her job, and the look on Micah's face meant she seemed to know what Kyra was talking about. "If they're working for the same asshole who caused the demonic invasion last night, they need to be stopped immediately. The fucker is still running around, and we don't have any clues as to who it might be."
Molly on the other hand gave Vesyka a gentle honest smile. "The name is Molly.I... I'm not from around here in Mival. Neither is my friend, Demmy. We're not city guards or anything, we just work at the Violet Bar as waitresses. And you are... Vesyka?"
Demmy's one good eye looked over the silver with subdued curiosity. In her long life, she had seen many kinds of people and creatures of different origins, but this girl, Vesyka... Something seemed different about her than anyone she had met before. She looked human, sounded human, smelled human, acted human, in all regards was human but... the demon sensed there was something OFF about her, something strange...
"Cute, cute so very, illegal yet." Doris's mutterings distracted Demmy. The other wiatress was still on her back, but her eyes seemed bloodshot from the tiny sliver they were open and focused over on Vesyka and Molly. "Rival goddess cannot, impossible yet, Mother forgive me..."
Demmy sighed. She was probably just imagining things. The girl seemed innocent and sweet enough, she was probably just paranoid. After all, the biggest weirdo in the room was the Russian speaking waitress...

"I've never known Mival to be this chaotic," Kyra said. "Least no more than your average city."
She turned her head around to the lebran sitting next to her and winked. "How's the hot water?" she asked, lowering her voice. "I know you're cold blooded. Any sensitivity?" Kyra spoke the last word with a hint of a grin.
"Yes, I am Vesyka," the silver-haired woman smiled back. Molly's gentle demeanor seemed to have boosted her confidence. "It is nice to meet you as well, Demmy. I did not realize demons worked as waitresses. Maybe we can visit the Violet Bar later!"

Baerbel walked towards the table, naked tail sweeping back and forth. "On my back or on my stomach?"
-
Cipo's yellow eyes looked into Kyra's green quietly, intensely, for a few moments. Then, she replied with a gentle, somewhat mischievous smile.
"No," she answered, her own voice low. "I find the heat quite pleasing, actually."
Under the water's warm surface, the lebran's hand rested upon Kyra's thigh. Her fingertips were quite rough, so she did not stroke the woman's bare skin, only soaking in the heat of her body.

"Please lay on your stomach." Dumriel instructed. She laid a towel out on the table, and began to moisturize her hands with lotion. "The healing properties work best from the back where the spinal cord is, letting them flow through the body at a faster pace. It's... what my current guardian told me."

"Normally, it's not this bad, but... the past few weeks, the city's been getting hectic. Children going missing, dementia outbreaks in the outskirts, and now a demonic invasion. Why the city's gone to shit so fast, I honestly don't know, and everyone on the guard's been working overtime to try and keep some semblance of peace."
Demmy nervously chuckled. "Well... you can say I'm a bit of a unique case. I'm not sure what the demons of this world are normally like, but it's a special case for me. I just... I just want to live a normal human life now, and make sure my friends can do that as well." She moved up next to Molly and hugged her. "A peaceful life is worth protecting."
Molly did her best to ignore Demmy's breasts pressing against her shoulder. "Yes. I don't want a crazy eventful life, just a normal every day one. Being surrounded by... the unique personalities I work with is enough entertainment for me. ANd sure, visit the Violet Bar sometime at night. That's when we're working our shift!"
"Sadly when working not am I." Doris mumbled...

After winking back at Cipo, Kyra turned her attention back to the guardswomen.
"Afraid I'd be a shit guard, but if you need volunteers to help out then I might be able to lend a hand. I have skills that could be useful to you."
Beneath the water, Kyra's hand left Cipo's thigh, only to find the grasp the lebran's hand on her own leg. She grasped it gently, letting her fingers explore the rough texture of Cipo's own fingertips. "Not today though. My schedule's filled up. Have a few mates I need to help out."
Vesyka couldn't help but giggle as she watched Demmy hug Molly. "I am the same way. I would rather spend my day painting or baking than going on very strange adventures. But... I could not help as many people if I were to stay at home all day, and I think I would rather help people more than anything else, even if it must ensure very strange adventures."

"Very well," Baerbel agreed with a simple nod.
The small humanoid approached the table, tail swishing slowly. It was a bit awkward to swing her legs up and onto it, but she was just thankful it was no taller.
The damon sunk onto her stomach and stretched herself out. It was an unusual position for the nonhuman primate to take, drawing a long, low grunt out of her, and it seemed to highlight her form in a new way. While she generally seemed compact when standing, a single, solid structure, as if designed for hardiness, extending herself in this manner seemed to highlight the contrast between her muscular limbs and fatty trunk, both girthy, but in sharply different ways.
Baerbel set her jaw. It was rather uncomfortable to have the weight of her body press down on her breasts. She also did not know what to do with her tail, settling on simply laying it across her legs.
-
Beneath the water, Cipo grew still and allowed Kyra to explore her hand. The lebran seemed anxious, as if afraid her own fingertips would mar Kyra's, but she allowed it to happen, trusting they would not.
Above the water, she looked to Chalodna with her bright yellow eyes. "What threats does a city guard normally deal with?"

Dumriel placed her hands on the damon's back. " This might sting a little..." She warned.
She focused. Her life energy flowed down her hands into Baerbel's body. Any exhaustion she might have felt seemed to fade away, and the gouges and opened wounds that covered her body began to close, with flesh mending itself back together and severed veins reattaching.
As Dumriel healed Baerbel, her own wings began to droop, and the white coloration grey...

Micah smiled. The paleness in her face was gone already, and she shifted her seated position. "Help is always appreciated, and the city needs it now. Many were left homeless and in need of help after the demon attack. If you can provide them shelter or help clear out the rubble, that would be wonderful."
Chalodna nodded. "It's a lot of work, and a lot of shit we got to clean up. Normally it isn't that bad. We go out and patrol around the city to see if things are normal, or if one of us is at our office, we get reports of suspicious activity and go and investigate. The worst we deal with is normally out of place bounty hunters or petty crooks and thiefs, maybe the odd monster that strays too close to the city."

"Helping out others, it's the motto of the cafe I used to own back where I came from." Molly looked over at Vesyka. "All debts are to be repaid with kindness, and those in need will be helped with kindness."
"If only Heather had known that when she signed up..." Demmy muttered under her breath.
Molly grabbed Demmy's left cheek and pinched it. The demon winced and scooted away from her. "You are part of the reason Heather was so antagonistic. Not the full reason, but a part of it. You kept feeding into her negative nature and had no remorse about it."

"Hopefully not one of the giant monsters," Kyra said quietly. She was dimly aware of her now sweating face from the heat of the water, and used her free hand to push herself up. She straightened her back against the side of the pool and rose chest-height out of the water, smiling as she felt the cool air on her shoulders.
"I don't own any property here to lend as shelter, but think I can help with the cleanup, once I finish some important business." She allowed her thumb to caress the top of Cipo's hand.
–
Vesyka looked curiously between Demmy and Molly. "Who is Heather?"

"Where does this form of healing originate from?" Baerbel asked, her low voice muffled and stifling a moan. "I have never experienced it. It is very effective."
-
Despite having asked the question the guardswoman was answering, Cipo listened to Chalodna with only one ear. She had become distracted by Kyra's breasts as they breached the water, tilting her head to look at them without restraint. The lebran glanced down at her own chest, flat and muscular, for comparison. They were so strange, she quickly decided, those fatty lumps human women carried. She tried, and failed, to imagine what it was like to bear their elastic weight at all times. Pientan women had large bottoms for birthing large, highly developed young- it was actually rather disturbing to her how weak and helpless human infants were- but that girth was all muscle. It enhanced to their strength, not hampered it.
Humans were curious beings.

Dumriel's face blushed. "Well, it's... It's an angel thing. Some of us are more soul collectors, while others... we mend wounds. I'm more the mending wounds type. I, well, I transfer my life energy, which accelerates the regenerative process... at least, that's what I've been told."

"Again, anything you can do to help would be appreciated." Micah said.
"Yeah, we got giant monsters that occasionally show up. Mival's had a history with them from what I've read." Chalodna sunk down deeper into the hot water. " Apparently, the city was founded on the outskirts of dragon territory, and only managed to be built because one large lizard decided it liked this strange settlement of people and protected it. Don't know if that's true or not, but it's what's written down. That aside, actual large monsters are a rarity, but more often there's more animal sized stuff that gets a little too close or thinks there's a free buffet in the city. We have technology to repel that stuff peacefully without causing harm."

Molly looked over at Demmy, and Demmy closed her one good eye with a sigh. She kept her mouth shut, so Molly cleared her throat.
"Heather... Heather was one of my employees at the cafe I ran. She was outspoken, very opinionated, highstrung and firm in her beliefs."
"Jackass Heather idiot." Doris cut in. She spat a fountain of bath water up from her mouth. "Argue everyone hate everyone. Her way or highway."
Molly winced. Doris definitely didn't mince words to those she held no high opinion of. "That's... a rather blunt way to put it, but yes, Heather was quick to anger and slow to calm. If she felt she was wronged... she would go to extreme measures to get back to what she felt was even ground."
"Like goddamn japanese giant hornets, replacing the kitchen soap with liquid cement, or sneaking a Tasmanian Devil into my locker?" Demmy's one eye twitched in irritation. "She wanted me dead, and took every chance to belittle and insult me, or anyone she didn't like."
"Like siblings much. Course standard of."

Kyra nodded. "The big ones are more common up north, in London. They come from the desert mostly – I've never seen any enter the city though. The Citadel usually repels them."
She turned to Cipo, still rubbing the top of the lebran's hand with her thumb, and smiled gently. "London's warm this time of year. You should visit us some time! Sparks would be so excited to meet a pientan."
–
"A Tasmanian Devil?" Vesyka asked with wide eyes, remembering the old cartoon Kyra loved that had played on London TVs. "How did she get one? Oh, Kyra likes to play practical jokes on me too, but they are never mean ones."

"What is an, 'angel?'" Baerbel asks her masseuse. Her tail flicks with curiosity, nearly striking the woman.
-
"Who is Sparks?" Cipo asks Kyra softly. Beneath the warm, bubbling water, she gives the human's hand a gentle squeeze. Her yellow eyes twinkle. "Someone I should know about?"

Dumriel paused. She did her best to ignore Baerbel's tail. "An angel... um, An angel is... something made as an intermediate between the gods and lower creation... Like a speaker is an intermediate between a king and their people. We do the will of our Creator and help out the lower people. I assume... your kind has someone like that, an intermediate between your ruler and everyone else?"
________________________
"Sounds like you got a fun city of yourselves where you're from." Chalodna mused. "As much as I like Mival... I do kinda want to see more outside the city. It's too dangerous for standard travel to anywhere where there's actual people, and my job keeps me tied down here, but-"
"No need to. It's perfectly safe here, and plenty goes on even now." Micah said. She turned to look over at Molly, when she noticed something out of the corner of her eyes. She grabbed it, and yanked it free.
It was a grey hair, from her own head.
___________________________
"She claimed she got it through proper channels, but Tasmanian Devils are an illegal exotic species where we used to work." Molly explained. "How Heather got her hands on one, I can only assume she used illegal methods like the Black Market. The same goes for the giant hornets."
"Again, she wanted me dead, and no method was too far removed for her to try." Demmy grumbled. "If she had known she was dealing with a demon lord, she would have tried to fry me with all of the city's power grid, and you know it."
Molly looked down. "I cannot deny that... So I threatened to fire her if she continued to be antagonistic. She provoked everyone around her, but with Demmy it was the worst... and Doris before her."
"Girl understand no talent." Doris sat straight up in the bath. "Catch mess she throw me, back fling to spin curve, volleyball like."
Molly couldn't help but laugh. That was indeed Doris's specialty when it came to volleyball. She remembered when they played at the beach a few days before they came to Lemuria. It was her and Demmy teamed up against Nichelle and Doris. In hindsight, it made too much sense why Demmy had been so fast and precise on the volleyball field, and never let the ball even touch Molly's hands. Yet, Nichelle and Doris had been able to keep pace with Demmy, and the two of them had forced her to go all out just to counteract Molly herself being rather deadweight at volleyball.
Even with it effectively being 2v1, Demmy's speed and control over herself and the ball had kept the game tied, 39-39. That final score had been Molly's serve, and when she served, Demmy had spiked it down into Nichelle and Doris's side of the court... but Doris had other plans, and had leaped up and twisted her body so that her hand cupped the ball as she spun in the air. When she turned back around while still rising, she hurled the ball down at such an angle that Demmy had been unable to intercept it in time, and Nichelle and Doris had won. In the end, Molly had to pay everyone out of pocket for tiger ice cream and ketchup chips, the latter which Demmy had refused to eat and instead gave over to Doris, who happily had taken them.
She looked over at Demmy, and the demon had sunk back down into the bath while blowing bubbles. That day still struck a nerve with her, and if Doris ever wanted to made Demmy upset, she simply had to make reference to her special technique for Demmy to be at a loss of words on how that even worked. And all Doris had to explain it was "training years practice!"
The girl in question stood up suddenly. "Cold... Water cold. Sorry Molly ah, business forgot! Things promised, leave now, sorry!" She ran out of the baths and toward the showers and lockers in a rush.
Demmy nearly sank completely into the water. "Doris... forgot something?"
"Probably a lot on her mind... I mean, last night was a mess for everyone... a tragic mess."

"She's my best friend," Kyra answered Cipo with a grin. "Sparks – I mean T.J – she loves learning about new cultures and languages. Lemuria has been a fucking treasure trove for her. She'd be so excited to meet a Lebran face to face."
Kyra winked at her. "Especially such a pretty one."
For a moment she turned her attention back to Chalodna."If you have to travel, take the airships. Safest way to travel, least without magic."
–
"Oh, um, bye Doris." Vesyka waved as the tall woman left for the changing room. "It was very nice to meet you."
Her silver eyes turned to Molly. "I hope you and Demmy can make better friends here than Heather... she sounds horrible. I am very sorry you had to go through that, Demmy..."

"And how excited are you to meet this lebran?" Cipo asks Kyra in a hushed tone, her yellow eyes hooded.
-
“Not truly,” Baerbel answered frankly. “Unless you were to consider the ruler of each tribe to fulfill such a role. The tribe is subservient to them, but they are subservient to the king. In a sense, it can be said my people are a tribe made up of tribes, and the king acts as ruler. ‘God,’ however, is a word I do recognize. The damon do not have gods. In fact, we scarcely have figures similar to gods. Worship is something the damon do not practice. They recognize strength and there are figures of myth that are admired, warriors and tricksters who knew not but victory, but none have earned worship.”
The small humanoid flung her restless tail off the table, removing it from Dumriel’s way. Several times, she had felt the very heat from the angel’s body through its naked length, and she did not wish to strike her caretaker.
“I think that a key difference between the damon and many other peoples. Humans and the rest, they recognize ideas. They admire them. The damon only recognize actions. Power takes the place of ideology. I think that is why the damon seem evil to others, and they spineless to the damon.”

Dumriel paused again. She... never really thought of it that way. Though, Sasriel had mentioned something like that about humans, how they were easy to sway with ideals or something. It had been so long since she had remembered anything Sasriel had said. How long had it been since she had served under her? It felt like an eternity ago...
"I... I understand." She answered weakly. I get where you're coming from. Some people are like that as well. They value power over everything else, and... follow it. Even my people were like that... it cost us dearly."
__________________________
"Air travel? If I find the time, I'd be glad to try one of those airships. Though given the news of what happened to one just this morning, I'd be a little skeptical." Chalodna nervously chuckled.
"You mean the dragon attack?" Micah asked. "I must have been preoccupied." She pushed the grey hair off to the side. She couldn't afford to think of that right now.
"Yeah, one of the airships was attacked by some madman with a weird watch.Real tall dude in a trenchcoat with flaming swords. A dragon attacked it as well, and apparently the two were working together. Thankfully, no serious injuries happened."
__________________________________________
Molly overheard what Chalodna had said. That sounded terrifying, to be in that kind of a situation. To try and travel through the one safe method in this world, only for a terrorist to strike... She couldn't begin to imagine what that would have been like.
"Thanks for worrying about me, but I was never in any real danger." Demmy answered Vesyka with a genuine smile and a light laugh. "Heather's a bitch, but she's only human. Even the worst thing she did to me, swap out the hand soap for quick drying cement, was just an annoyance. Really, it was Molly and the other maids who had it rough."
Molly turned to nod. "A few of Heather's attempts to get at Demmy nearly caused the cafe to shut down, which is why I had to be so hard on her when I threatened to fire her. I wasn't going to let a petty grudge threaten actual lives, which Heather's stunts did. The hornets and Tasmanian Devil for starters, but also grease all along the floors and a bucket loaded with bricks perched above Demmy's locker. People could have been killed by those."

Kyra only winked at Cipo, but she could not hide the shroud of concern that came over her face as Chalodna and Micah told her about the attack on the airship.
"A dragon?" she asked Micah. "But even terataurs usually leave airships alone. They're too big. Fuck..."
Letting out a sigh, Kyra sank back into the hot water – and against Cipo's shoulder. "Maybe I should tag along with you on the ship back to Mata, Cip." A mischievous smile began to form, and she leaned in a little more so that her lips were inches from Cipo's ears. Her voice was only a whisper when she spoke next. "Lots of time to meet a pientan there."
–
Vesyka, like Molly, had also overheard Micah. She smiled and nodded politely towards Demmy and Molly as they talked, but as she made to cast a glance towards Kyra she found herself staring at the scene, and Molly's words became drowned out by her own thoughts.
Kyra and Cipo were sitting very close together, much too close for Vesyka's liking – why, Kyra's head was practically rested on the lebran's shoulder! Realization struck her like a brick to the gut, and the small woman silently tore her gaze down to the bubbling water.
"Yes... yes cement is dangerous..." she said in reply to Molly, not really paying attention.

"What became of your people?" Baerbel asked bluntly. She almost asked instead why Dumriel was such a timid creature, but held her tongue. She knew humans and human-like creatures could be sensitive about such matters.

Cipo's sly smile faded at Kyra's suggestion, and her gold-rimmed eyes wandered.
"I think I would prefer to see London," the Pientan suggested quickly. "I already know Mata well."
