Sya turned to look back at the girl. "No car. I don't know what a car is but... I can bring you there. It would take a day or so-"
"By walking?" Serene raised an eyebrow. "It would take a lot longer than a day and... well I COULD get us there in that time but... I can't leave my patients unattented..."
The door to the bedroom creaked open, and a tiny blue haired face peered out. "Sya can... She can do that and more."
"Lae! What are you doing out of the bed?! You need to rest!"
"I'm fine. We fae recover much faster than you think." The tiny pixie hovered over on thin fragile wings, and landed back on the table. "But thank you. I won't be stressing myself out much but... if you need to track down someone and get there, even across... this continent then... Sya can do it. Everyone might want to be outside if you wish to go now."
Asphagel chuckled. Even as a tiny weak pixie, Laeptus just didn't know when to stay down. It reminded him of when he had hobbled all the way from his laboratory to the Resistance Headquarters despite the grave wounds he had received from the ambush there. It made sense back then, as he was more machine than anything, but even as a pixie... the resilience astounded him.
He turned to Maria. "Are you fine with departing now? Or would you rather wait a bit, have something to eat, take a shower and then head out?"

Maria leaned close to the table, her pale, freckled face creased in concern.
"Are you sure you're okay?" she asked Lae softly. "I can wait a little while if it helps. Dani is really smart and tough. She'll be okay. I know she will. I just... really want to see her."

"I'll live..." Lae twitched his back, so a loud pop could be heard. "We fae... we're tougher than we look, and we recover quickly from wounds. It's just... I haven't been outside of that machine for a very, very long time, so it took a bit to stand on my own two feet." He shook his head. "But again, thank you for the concern. Many of my contemporaries would never believe me if I told them a human showed concern for me."
"So you're actually good to go, then?" Asphagel asked. "You're not going to drop dead from the heat-"
"Asphagel, the insides of my machine can reach up to 240 degrees in Sheol's climate." Lae turned to face him. He stared down the much larger demon. "I've grown used to dealing with extreme temperatures and running on very little food or water. I will be fine."
"I still need to nurse our burn victim back to full health, so you boys can go without me." Serene began to walk back to the guest room. "Just, be safe. I hope you find your friend, Maria. Being separated from those you care about, and not knowing if they're alright... I know that pain and I hate it. Best of wishes to you."
"Meet me outside. I'll be waiting." Sya opened the front door, and walked out into the desert sun...

After mumbling a goodbye to the whisper demon, Maria too looked up at Asphagel.
"Were you gonna come?" she asked the scarlet demon. "Um, it's okay if you wanna to stay with your- w- with Miss Serene. She... seems like she might get lonely. I'll be okay with just him and Sya."

Asphagel scratched the back of his head. "I was planning on tagging along but... when you put it like that..."
"I'll be fine by myself." Serene called back to them. "You haven't gotten the chance to see the rest of this world aside from this desert and some of the jungle. Maybe we can find others of our friends scattered out there, like Voti and Korraz."
Asphagel nodded. If he, who was definitely supposed to be dead, was somehow still alive, then the chance of those who had perished also being alive was there... Ibana! Perhaps... Perhaps she was still alive out there, somehow!
"I'll be coming with you, then. Besides, I need to make sure Laeptus here doesn't try anything funny."
The tiny pixie in question rolled his eyes. "Your concerns for the girl are noted and logical, if excessive. Neither I nor Sya have anything nefarious planned. Those days are long passed, and I want nothing to do with them."

Maria smiled up at Asphagel, but she still seemed unsure, her old, worn sneakers shuffling.
"Um, can you two still talk?" she asked, speaking up so that Serene could hear as well. "Do you haves phones or something? I don't want to separate you..."

"No phones..." Serene held up a finger, and a black flame, no larger than that of a candle, manifested on her fingertip. "But why need a phone when my magic suffices?"
"Yeah, if we need anything, Serene will be listening in." Asphagel explained.

The flame flickered darkly in Maria's bright eyes. Hearing about magic and actually seeing it were quite different. "Oh. Okay."
"Um, are you ready to go?" she then asked Asphagel. Her hands found her stomach, and a pinkish tint possessed her cheeks. "And, uh, can we bring some snacks?"

Asphagel shot a glance over to Serene, and the witch demon twirled her ring finger. A bag of glazed donuts and jelly filled rice balls appeared in Asphagel's hands.
"Straight from the fridge" Serene said with a smile.
Lae gave a quick glance to her. There was a brief moment of an uneasy look on his face. To see the very magic that had once nearly killed him used for such mundane utility...

"Oh, wow," Maria breathed. "Thank you, Miss Serene! Um... then the three of is and Sya are going?"
The redheaded girl leaned close to Lae once again. "Should I carry you? So you can rest."

Lae's tiny wings began to vibrate, and the pixie flew up onto Maria's shoulder. "That would be correct, and sure."
Asphagel opened the door, and stepped outside. Sya stood a full fifty meters from the house and stared back at them. "Let's get a move on." Asphagel said. "Hopefully we won't get burned by the rising sun."
That caused Lae to erupt into a sniggering chuckle fit...

Maria turned her head, casting a sparkling blue halo around Fae's head with one of her pale eyes.
"What's so funny?" she asked quietly, trying not to breath too much on the pixie. She didn't want to sting his raw skin.
She was also worried her breath might stink.

Lae shook his head as he waved a hand in front of him. "The rising sun won't be the hottest thing around us. Sya, show them the opposite of what you amazed me with when we landed in this world."
"Yes, Laeptus." Sya responded. She lowered herself onto her knees and planted her hands into the dirt. Her skin began to flash, and plumes of flames rose from her veins and flesh and warped around her. A raging firestorm enveloped the girl, and Asphagel stepped back as it billowed in size and intensity.
The fire storm receeded, and what stared down at Asphagel was no longer the blind woman who had been there just a moment prior. Instead, it was a monolith of obsidian scales and molten fire that burned beneath and between them. Jagged claws churned the glassed earth where the beast stood, and a long flickering tail swept through the sand beyond the area that had been turned to glass. Three narrow sharp fanged heads, each carried by a powerful muscular neck, stared down at Asphagel and Maria, yet there were no eyes upon the heads but instead glowing orange sacs.
"W-WHAT THE?!" Asphagel stammered backward. It was so huge, so imposing. This type of creature, he had heard of them, but only in legends and rumors. They were supposed to be extinct, long wiped out by Lucifer's conquest of Hudai... "Laeptus... What have you... What is this?! A... Hellfire Wyrm?"
"That would be correct." Lae said. "Sya, or rather, Scylla, is my magnum opus, my attempt at recreating life long lost. Do not worry, she won't bite, and she can control her own internal temperatures so she won't burn you."
The tail of the Hellfire Wyrm reached around, and lowered itself into the sand before Asphagel and Maria. "Climb aboard." The beast mentally spoke to them. It was still Sya's voice, just far louder...

Maria stepped back from the hulking hydra, her blue eyes wide and unsure. Her body stiffened as the tail of the giant lurched towards them, gouging the sand with its weight, but Sya's echoing voice seemed to snap her from her fear.
"Y- You... can still talk?" she asked the remade titan softly. "A- And control when you change?"

Asphagel gave a curious glance over to Maria, and noticed in that brief moment that Lae also seemed interested in her comment. Either the girl had far more willpower and nerves to not lose her mind seeing a person transform into a monster right before her... or perhaps she was more used to this than she let on.
"Yes." Sya responded. "I can... speak like this, and change when I... desire. I never knew I could do it until... recently, but I... now know I can."
"You never knew you could... Care to explain that, Laeptus?" Asphagel shifted his gaze to the tiny pixie.
"I'll explain when we're actually on the move." Lae sighed. "and not burning daylight."

Maria took a few slow steps forward the transformed Sya and, after one last moment of hesitation, laid her hands on the scaly tail. Just as Lae had promised, it was warm, but not unpleasantly so. It was nice.
"Does it hurt?" she asked, following the grain of the massive scales with her palm. "When you change."

"Hardly." Sya replied as she moved her tail to beneath Maria and gently scooped her up, and Asphagel with her. She placed them both upon her back, which radiated with the same gentle warmth as her tail did. "A minor tingle but... that is it."
"The law of Thermodynamics is a wonderful tool when you know how to exploit it." Lae said with a devilish grin. "Mass and Energy, two halves of the same whole, and the total sum never being lost."

"Could... could you help someone else do that?" Maria asked Laeptus. Her eyes shone bright and hopeful. "Help them, like... change easy."

Lae's grin only grew a little wider. So it was as he suspected with this girl... Why else would she ask such a question?
"Theoretically, yes. It would depend on the case but-"
"Can we NOT burn more daylight, please?" Asphagel cut him off. "I would rather we get there before we burn to death from the sun."
Lae chuckled. "Very well. Scylla, carry us off."
"As you wish." the Hellfire Wyrm's voice projected into their minds, and the giant serpentine beast began to move forward, one giant clawed hand dredged into the soft sand at a time and dragged it along. A great pair of wings manifested out around the shoulders and spread over Maria and Asphagel and Lae and covered them in shade. "It will take me some time to get there, but much faster than if you were to walk."

Maria instinctively tensed up, holding onto Sya tighter with her thighs and wrapping her fingers around bunches of Asphagel's fur, as if takeoff was eminent.
"Y... You can fly?" she asked the Hellfire Wyrm. "And... um, do you prefer Sya or Scylla?"
