Baerbel clicked her teeth together, seemingly intrigued. "By chance," she grunted, " I speak a number of language. Perhaps one is shared between us."
Tail looping across itself, the small, bipedal primate began to fire off questions in tongues Kyra did, for the most part, not recognize.
"Sprochst da Daisparch? Hul tutuhuduth Dubuu? Elebrole? Leksikanskom? Moleti Vinoria? Edekeh ende bircekep Gekop? Sprechst Witchel?"
At the end of the barrage of cultures, Adra could only shake her head no.
"I see," Baerbel nodded back. "I am sorry I could not help."

"It's alright," said Kyra. After giving the small child a smile and a wink, she began to move back out into the street. "Sorry I can't stay and chat. We need to find a healer," she told Baerbel. "Maybe I'll see you at the baths tomorrow evening?"

"Perhaps," Baerbel replied curtly, dipping her head to Kyra.
"And if either of you or your friends need your hair trimmed, I'd be happy to do it for you on the house," the woman smiled. "I'm Renee. This is Gabie. You'll have to forgive her. She's shy when she first meets people. Give her some time and she won't leave you alone though. Isn't that right, Gab?"
The child ducked behind her mother in embarrassment, but there was a smile on the edges of her mouth.

Kyra laughed. "Look forward to getting to know you, Gabie," she grinned. "Nice to meet you, Renee. Wish it could have been under better circumstances."

The woman's smile grew sad. "Yes. Yes, I do too. There's no one you're worried about, I hope?"

"Just Adra for now," Kyra said. "Rest of my people took shelter underground, away from the fighting."
She looked off down the street, attempting to judge the time it would take for her and Adra to return, and whipped her head back to Renee.
"Once I got Adra back and my people settled in for the night I was going out to get them some food. Do you have anyone you're looking for? Or do you need food? I can make a side trip."

Renee shook her head, smile growing bright once again. "Thank you, but there's no need. It's just Gabie and I here. Everyone else is... a world away."

Kyra nodded in understanding. "Well I can try visiting while I can," she told her. "Seems you two could use the company, if you'll have me. Don't know too many in this city."

Renee laughed quietly. It was a tinkly, musical sound that echoed in one's heart. "We'd be happy to! And I'm sure you'll meet more if you come. There are lots of different sorts of people here, but most of them have hair or fur that needs cutting. And if they don't, I have files for horns and scales. You know, lebrans sparkle with a bit of care."
"They are a very attractive people," Baerbel nodded sagely.

Kyra nodded in agreement, but her mind had traveled back to the abandoned station where she had left the pientans.
"I should get going," she told them. "Sooner I can get Adra healed the better."
She started to hurry down the road. "Take care, okay?"

"May I ask you name?" Renee called to the retreating Kyra as she shooed Gabie inside.

"Shit! Right. Call me Kyra," she called back.
