"Oh gosh, it's – she's one of the giant monsters?" The lift had touched the ground floor now, and the cage doors slid open with a creak. T.J's attention however was solely focused on Vee; she hadn't seemed to notice. "I didn't realize one of those things could be friendly. Surely it can't be a terataur, at the very least?"

Seizing her chance, Vee reached out and wrapped an arm around T.J. in order to lead her out of the elevator.
"Can't say I know what a terataur is, luv," she grinned cheekily at the woman she squeezed against her side.

"T-tera-terataurs?" T.J wasn't unused to sudden physical contact thanked to Kyra, though non-the-less her heart began thumping at Vee's unexpected touch, and she struggled to answer without becoming tongue tied. "Oh, those... those a-are the names given to the giant mon-monsters of my home... home world."

The weight of Vee's arms on T.J.'s shoulders lessened. "Sorry, hen," the taller woman apologized sheepishly. "Too strong? And I getcha. We call ours abbeys. Well, I call them abbeys. Most people call them aberrations."

"Oh, yes! I've heard of them," T.J answered, though in truth her mind had now trailed far from monsters. Now that she thought about it, Vee did indeed seem to possess notable physical strength. She suddenly caught herself peering sideways at Vee's arms and forced her eyes away, picking up her pace so as to lead the way out of the building while she internally reprimanded herself.
"The cafe is just a block away," she called back as they crossed the street. There were only a few cars here – they were notably outnumbered by horse-drawn carriages. There was a quiet electric hum as cable cars passed by overhead, flitting from street to street.

"Like I said, it's all on me, luv." Vee patted her pocket, stuffed with the pounds she had exchanged in the lobby for her Mites. "So spend as much as you want when we get there."
The Vietnamese-British woman titled her head back to watch the cable cars. "Say, dove? What's there to do for fun around here? I, uh... well, I mostly come up here to get drunk."

It was like a lightswitch had been pulled in T.J's brain. Her eyes almost sparkled with excitement, and her volume increased to match Vee's. "The British Library, of course!" she shouted with energy that belied her more reserved behavior from before. "It's just next door. The national library of the United Kingdom and the largest in the world!"
"Oh gosh," she said sheepishly, and she seemed to visibly deflate. "But of course, you're a Londoner, you would know this already."
"Oi!" The switch had been flicked again, and T.J nearly bounced in excitement. "But of course, how could I forget? There's also the St. Pancras Library, just across the street!"

Vee avoided T.J.'s eyes. "U... Um... wanna stop by after breakfast? Before we board the airship. I... sorta had a fight with my mates. I don't wanna go back yet."

This revelation dragged the energy out from beneath T.J's feet. "Oh. Yes, I'd love to."
She looked up at the woman next to her as they walked. "Would you like to talk about it once we find a place to sit?"

T.J continued to lead Vee down the crowded streets, dodging the occasional horse or bike as they went even as she pulled out her phone and began to write to Fox. She still hadn't answered her first message, but T.J quickly pushed such worrisome thoughts out of her mind.
Hello, Fox
As it turns out, I may be meeting you in Mival soon. Vee has offered to show me around the place, and I'm afraid I don't have much funds we have left to continue to stay in Central London.
About Vee, she's a very friendly woman. She reminds me of you in some ways. Perhaps I'll be able to introduce you two some day.
Please stay safe, Fox.
It wasn't long before they reached the cafe. T.J opened the door for Vee before following in behind her. It was a homely little building, constructed of wood rather than the drywall of Mival and lit by flickering candles hanging from brass chandeliers. The scent of sweet-grass filled her nostrils, and it briefly occurred to T.J that this place made for quite a romantic setting. This too she quickly pushed out of her mind, and her cheeks flushed pink as she approached the counter.
"They specialize in their variety of teas," she told Vee as they observed the menu written in chalk above the counter. "Although they also carry coffee and hot chocolate. Oh, and of course they have sandwiches; you must be starving."

A faint blush possessed Vee's face. "Yeah, I... I did lose my lunch, huh? And some coffee would do this hangover good. Any sandwich you like here, luv?"

"I enjoy their chicken-salad sandwiches myself," T.J said. "Of course they also carry roast beef, ham and cheese, egg-salad, turkey..."

"I'll trust you, dove," Vee winked. "What do you want? I'll order for both of us since I'm paying."

"Oh, err, chicken-salad will do fine. I'll take a lemongrass tea as well." T.J stepped back to allow Vee access to the counter. "Thank you for doing this."

"Dun worry about it, luv," Vee laughed. "You helped me out first. We're jus even now, yea? I'll be back! Mind if I ask you to catch us some seats?"

T.J nodded and wandered off to secure a table for two next to the window. After placing her bag down at her feet and reminding herself not to forget it when they left, T.J pulled out her phone and used the rear-facing camera as an impromptu mirror as she quickly tidied up her bangs and made sure the bands on her pony tails were not too loose. She frowned to herself once she directed her attention lower – why had she worn such a ghastly sweater?
She could feel her heart beginning to pound beneath her chest now.
This isn't a date, T.J, she told herself.
It did little to calm her down.

It was not long before Vee joined T.J. at the table she had chosen. The Vietnamese-British woman set down a large, floral china plate with a neat, crustless sandwich and cup of steaming, amber tea on it in front of her.
"Here ya go, luv! Fast service here, eh?"
Vee sat down with a wide grin. Her own plate was twin to T.J.'s aside from substituting the teacup with a small mug of black coffee. "Cheap too. If you want seconds, just say say so. Doesn't feel like I paid you back yet."

"Mmm," T.J shook her head with a mouthful of sandwich. "I'd love seconds, but I'm afraid I have to watch my weight these days," she said once she had swallowed. "I, err, let myself go over the past few months trying the dishes from other Lemurian cultures."
She swallowed a second bite. "Thank you again for this."

"Aw, no problem, luv," smiled Vee with a shake of her head. She was focused on her plate though. Her eyes did not smile. "And, uh... I know what you mean. I swell up when I get moody. And... you can probably see I've been moody lately, huh?"
