"I'm sorry as well." Demmy said. "I was afraid Molly's screams would have woken up everyone in the Bar, but, I guess that wasn't the case. Maybe it's just this place, this world in general, that's just causing all this stress."
Her growling stomach cut her off. "Or, maybe it's just hunger pangs as usual." She helped Alex over to a table, and sat him down, while taking a seat herself. She ran her left hand through her white hair, and let it drift down. "Something good to eat would be nice right about now..."

"Alright. Give me a couple of minutes."
Boris hustled from his position lording over one of the tables and ran behind the counter, quickly getting to work preparing Alex's cup of coffee, before running to go and begin cooking something for Demmy...

"He's nice," Alex noted quietly once Boris had left earshot.
It seemed some conversation had injected a bit of life into him. His posture remained poor and his face was still unhealthily colored, but his eyes were brighter now, and moved to take in the other patrons.
The ocean-hued eyes finally moved back to Demmy. "Did you have any plans for what to do until your shift? You work in the evening, right?"

"Yeah, evening shift for me and Molly." Demmy answered. Her eyes drifted through the bar, yet quickly snapped back to Alex. "As for what we're gonna do... Molly wanted to head over to the library to see if there's anything of note there and, I guess just explore some more. Otherwise, just relax and get a chance to unwind some more."
Her eyes halfway closed. " And what for you?"

"W... Well, the plan was to leave for Stage once Sam got back, but... m- maybe you'd like a guide? I mean, I don't have anything else to do..."

Demmy shrugged. "Molly would definitely like a guide. Personally, i think I can find my way around well... if it's not dark and I'm not starving. But, yeah, a guide would be nice. I'd have to ask Molly specifically just in case."

Boris suddenly hustled out from behind the counter, coffee and a plate of scrambled eggs in tow.
"Okay, got everything ready!" He huffed out. He handed the mug filled with coffee to Alex. "Okay, coffee for you-" he then handed the plate of eggs to Demmy. "- and the eggs for the hungry worker."
He sighed and leaned over briefly, before shooting back to his feet. "Now i'm off! I'll be back tomorrow. Demmy, make sure to remind Molly that you're taking my shift tonight, okay?"
Without waiting for an answer, he briskly walked out the front door of the building into the streets outside...

Alex hurriedly thanked Boris as he left, then took a sip of his coffee. His face scrunched. It was hot and bitter. He forced himself to take another swig though. This would help. Probably.
"How's your food?" he asked Demmy between gulps, nose still crinkled.

By the time Alex asked, Demmy had already begun digging into her eggs. They were scrambled, with extra cheese and spices on them, and she was happily wolfing it down. "It's so good!" She purred, quickly licking some egg that was sticking out of the side of her mouth. "It's been a long time since I had eggs this good, a very long time at that. These guys know how to make good food!"She nearly squeed, only barely catching herself at the last moment so her tone was at least somewhat normal, and not that of a teenage girl girling out.

Alex smiled despite his mood. "It sounds good. So, um... you're covering an extra shift tonight?"

Demmy nodded after an extra scoop of eggs. By now, the plate was halfway emptied. " Yeah, for Boris. Don't know what he has to do, but it's the thought that counts."
"Or, there's some hidden benefit only you know of." An all too familiar voice reached Demmy's ears. Coming in with her own specialized version of the Violet Bar's uniform was Heather, who was cleaning up several other tables and setting them up for future attendants. "Because you never do anything for the nonexistent generosity in your heart, Demmy. There's always an ulterior motive with you."
Demmy's happy face was immediately soured. "Heather, please leave me alone. I just want to enjoy the food right now. And you know you're wrong on that." She lowly hissed.
"Am I? Am I really?" Heather flaunted, adjusting her glasses which had started to slip. " You, with her. If you know what's good for you, you'd keep a thousand miles from this bitch. She's a backstabbing demon."

"Um, hello," Alex greeted hesitantly. He had forgotten how unrelentingly hostile Heather was. "I'm Alex."
He took a long sip of his coffee, now nearing the bottom of the cup, before speaking again.
"Uh... you may want to have those nose pads adjusted. It'd be unfortunate if your glasses fell off during work."

Heather, caught flat footed by the response from Alex, nervously pushed her glasses as far up as she could. "Y-yes, of course. Normally they're in better condition than this, but I guess someone's been sabotaging them."
"You mean you're misusing and abusing them." Demmy grumbled, quietly eating away at her food. "Just like everything you get."
"I'll ignore that snide comment." Heather turned her attention back to Alex. " You're specialty is monster research, right? Definitely a unique job, and better than anything Dread-my here could hope to land. But, why do it?"

"Oh, well... I should start by saying that monsters where I come from aren't the same as where you and Demmy and Molly are from. They're new. W- Well... not new. Some are... ancient, the longest lived organisms on Earth. Vertebrate organisms, I mean. Some bacterial spores have been revived after millions of years, so they're in the competition too... b- but that's off track. Sorry."
Alex cleared his throat and took a deep swig, finishing his coffee.
"Uh, point is... they're newly known to popular science, so there's just... so much to do. And I want to help. Some people just want them gone, some are okay with writing them off as magical or divine, but I don't think that's true. I don't think they're supernatural, I think they're... n- neonatural, I guess. They don't defy the rules, just what we know of them. They... redefine the rules, make a new normal. I think that's worth trying to understand. P- Plus... some of them are just so amazing. I don't know how how much you've traveled or heard since getting here, but Guan to the east and Pless to the south and even Arias to the west are... just beautiful. I c- can't recommend getting too close to the latter, but if you ever get the chance to watch him swim or hunt from a same distance, it's incredible."

"So, they're poorly understood, new to the people of your world, so you study them to understand how they work." Heather said. "Noble, and commendable. I could always help you out, and I know where to start looking."
She looked over at Demmy, who was glaring angrily at her, and chuckled. "And no, not you. You'd be a waste of a specimen to study. Your so full of shit, you'd work better as fertilizer on a farm."
"Oh Heather..." Demmy hissed. Her fingers were twitching and rapidly tapping on the table. "It seems you have some waiting customers to be served over there." Her eyes quickly darted to behind the girl, where several new arrivals were grumpily waiting to be served, and someone was complaining about their order being late.
Heather growled. "Fine, fine. I'll leave you two alone for now. But Alex,if you want a brand new monster to study, there's a small ravine a dozen miles to the south of here. I hear a pretty fierce creature dwells there, a blind dragon at that."

"A blind dragon," Alex muttered to himself. His mind quickly conjured the image of a visually impaired dragon he knew was on Mundus as well. He shivered involuntarily, but doubted it was him. It was would be unusual for him to be so far south, and downright bizarre for him to be in an inland ravine. He was suddenly very intrigued what it could be.
Realizing that Heather had left several seconds late, he turned to her and hurriedly called, "T- Thanks!"
Ensuring she was out of earshot, Alex then glanced to Demmy. "So... um... she doesn't like you, does she?"

Demmy shook her head. "That would be the understatement of the year, but yes, she hates me."
She took a bite from her eggs, now only a quarter left. "Honestly, I don't know why she hates me, but she does. When I joined Molly's cafe, I tried to be as nice and generous to everyone but... clearly Heather just decided I was on her to hate list from day one, so she tried to run my hand through with a knife she had concealed in her sleeve, a knife covered in Digoxin mind you, and..." She leaned back, and groaned. "you can say it escalated from there. I'm not exactly a saint myself, so sadly I ended up dropping to her level a few times and... Molly was getting fed up with the petty rivalry between us. I just want nothing more of it."
She took another bite. "I liked the cafe, I liked the people there and working there, but Heather made every day a nightmare for me, and it was bleeding out into the rest of the work environment. It sucked."

Alex put down his mug slightly too hard, creating a sharp banging sound that echoed throughout the inn. "S- She tried to stab you? A... And when you saw you sunk to her level... d- did you try to hurt her as well?"

Demmy's eyes darted around the bar. Heather, who had been attending to one of her neglected tables, wasn't looking back at them, which was all Demmy cared about. "No. I've had dark urges, thoughts to hurt her or even cripple her, but thankfully I never went that far. Just mild pranks to try and put her in line, like hiding her car keys or sweeping the rug out from under her..."
She leaned in close to Alex. "But that's nothing compared to the crap she's put me through. Sending giant asian hornets to my house, trying to smuggle in some rabid toothy rodent into my work station, loading my bottle of water with the most powerful laxatives you can think of... There's only so much I can take, and if it wasn't for Molly being a saint, I probably would have snapped Heather's neck months ago."

Alex suddenly recalled what it was like to feel frightened of the tall, white-haired woman. "I... It sounds like maybe you should have gotten law enforcement involved. U- um... think Molly will be up soon? I, uh... w- wanted to ask something."
