How did your characters get their disabilities/injuries/handicaps, if any? How do they cope with it/them?
For mine:
Roanauk Ice-Fist: You would think the ancient great chieftain of the Colossians would have gained the badass blind eye + scar combo during an epic battle or something, but no, he just slipped and fell against a sharp chunk of ice. It doesn't impede him much, though he has a blind spot.
Sirmaq: Deaf in one ear and blind in the eye of that same side, both of which happened when he fell face-first into his mom's forge. Interestingly, his mate had nearly the same thing happen to her. Maqie deals with both quite fine. He's rather hard of hearing, but not to a point where he's downright deaf. He'll often get signed at because he can't hear anything over his forging, though.
Usken: Cataracts developed when she was younger. From what I know, cataracts can be removed, but some can't. So, because the power of plot demand it, hers can't be removed. Usky's other senses compensate for her lack of vision and she knows how to use them to analyze her environment. For example, she'll be able to calculate the correct angle to fire her crossbow at using the feel of the wind on her fur to tell how hard it is blowing, while her hearing and nose tell her where her opponents even are. She's prone to using her harpoon as a walking stick/cane - using it to climb stairs, for example. She also has a damaged leg that forces her to limp; it was severely damaged when she accidentally stepped onto a bear trap. Neither her bum leg or her blindness particularly bother Uskers. She takes things in stride.
Korraz: Completely mute from being slashed in the throat; not only having her laryngeal nerve severed but also having her voice box totally removed. In other words, she literally has no voice. Obvious inability to talk (and huge weakness in the form of being unable to call for help if in trouble) as well as difficult breathing from throat damage aside, it also causes her to suffer from loneliness and quite often feeling left out from conversations going on around her, though her friends do try to include her. She uses sign language to communicate (which just so happens to be identical to human sign language -cough-) and she may write or draw Wile E. Coyote-style if she happens to have something to draw or write on. Can also pull a Gromit and silently snark at Jorgen's antics. Although she can't produce any voiced sounds, she can use her nose to perform the Bison Snort™, loyal companion to the Bison Death Glare™ that she's also fond of using. She's actually able to "bark", much like (and sounding much like) a debarked/devocalized big dog. She can whisper, but not clearly at all, to a point where it's not even worth trying. While technically capable of producing some strangled gasps/rasps, wheezes and barks, they tend to come out of her only if she gets hurt and/or loses consciousness or whatever, because hearing her pitiful, sad squeaky/wheezy noises break her friends' hearts and they just feel sorry for her. Mutism aside, she has her fair share of battle scars (including her inclusion on the list of people missing vision in one eye), chief of which are the gruesome scars of her throat and face, the latter of which are hidden underneath her mask that you'd need to challenge her to Mexican wrestling for if you wanted to see it taken of.
Jorgen: Missing an eye, which is now covered in an EYEPATCH OF POWER. IIRC, she lost that eye to a creature mauling her face (which also caused the scars on her chest and belly). She doesn't care about it, and even if it did bother her, she would never admit it.
Gronnrig: The entirety of her fur got burned off and nerves totally killed, leaving her, well, without fur, and with a crippling fear of fire. She now uses thorns as her fur, which gives her the look of some grassy floofles. As for fire, she just looks away fast and does her best to avoid being near it.
