Molly didn't expect to have a restful night. The events of yesterday, and the night that had preceded it, foretold of only more nightmares to come, more restless nights of tossing and turning and of waking up at the crack of dawn in a drenched sweat. And indeed, that was how most of her sleep had gone. The same nightmare from before repeated out, of a wave of destruction and death, of the red eyed abomination she now knew was the reason Demmy had entered her life being the cause of it all, and of Heather and Demmy perishing at the fiend's hands. It had raised an arm at her, to grab at her.
Yet, something had changed in the dream. The beast's horned visage began to melt away. Not just it, but the entire world as well. It all dissolved into a white void, devoid of anything. Molly was floating in the void, but she heard a voice call out, almost inaudible, but strangely familiar.
"Hail our proud Queen, on and on, on and on!"
"Hail our Queen, the Mother of All."
"Selah Selah, chanting evermore!"
"Hear, oh hear, the Dawnmother's cry."
The white void grew brighter, and the chanting grew louder and louder...
Molly's eyes snapped open. She rose up seated in her bed, drenched in sweat. That... that was new. She had seen that dream before so many times, yet... why was it changed? What was that at the end? It made no sense to her, none at all. She began to shuffle out of bed.
"No, leave no." A voice caused her to freeze. She slowly turned her head back around, and saw that Doris was under the covers as well, one arm wrapped around Molly's legs. Her eyes were partially open, and a sleazy smile was etched on her face. "Sleep more, me with. Smell nice, thighs soft."
Molly's face flushed bright red. "D-d-d-d-d-DORIS?!" She stammered out. She rolled out of her bed and flopped on the ground in a panic. "W-w-w-"
"Off day, asked up highers. So sleep you with, so good." Her former co-worker leaned forward. "Good feel make me."
A hand grabbed Doris by the shoulder, and gripped tight. "DORIS..." Demmy hissed, her one eye twitching. "I thought we made this very, very clear back at the cafe... DON'T GO SNEAKING INTO MOLLY'S BED!"
She yanked back, and Doris was flung out the bed. Yet as she was in the air, she bent her body and latched her feet around Demmy's head. She sunk her hands into the mattress, and swung her body forward. Demmy was hurled off her feet and into the wall with a loud thud. "No fun, fun no you with. Best day start, always is."
Molly couldn't help but shake her head. This was an unfortunate thing with Doris. Even back at the cafe, Doris had started to make it a priority to sneak into Molly's house when she wasn't looking. She had called the police several times, but each time, no evidence of a break-in could be found, and no way to track it back to her. Eventually, she had finally relented, and just accepted there was no way to stop Doris from doing Doris things.
"It doesn't matter if you find it fun." Demmy's eye continued to twitch as she rose to her feet. "There are laws against that sort of thing!"
"Are really?" Doris smiled. Unlike Demmy and Molly, who were both wearing pajamas, the woman was in her underwear only, a pale red bra and panties one would expect from an underwear model. "Mival no laws such. Free do this."
Molly's face flushed red again. "Y-your joking. Doris, you have to be lying. You are lying! I can see the smirk! Don't do that, please!"
Doris's smirk slowly dropped, and she burst into laughter. "Right you, right you. Joke only is, fun good. Off day truth is." She walked over to the drawer, and opened it up, revealing a Cheshire Cafe outfit Molly was surprised to see there. Something on Doris's wrist, a bandage, caught Molly's eye.
"Doris... You... you seem injured."
Doris sharply stood up, the outfit in her hands. She looked down at her wrist, and held it out. "This oh? Glass cut during help night last, remember? Wound mouth apply end until, antibiotics and bandage on wrapped. Minor only. Fine will be."
"If you say so..." Molly said. Doris HAD helped them out with the ruined glass and debris last night, and it was thanks to her they had finished that and been allowed to call it a night at a reasonable time. That, and Demmy melting down the glass with her eye beams when it had all been put into a pile. "Just be careful. I have some healing crea-"
"No, is fine, really." Doris cut her off, and she slipped the outfit on. It was slightly too large for her, with the dress bottom stretching past her knees and her hands engulfed in the sleeves, but she had insisted way back when she started it was her preference. "Change to head out as well, no?"
Demmy began to strip off her pajamas and put on her Violet Bar outfit. "After last night's hecticness, we're heading out to the baths to try and relax. Chalodna and Micah invited us over, since it would be before their work hours begin. And really, I just want to submerge and let all the stress go away."
Molly nodded as she too began to change. "You could join us, Doris... Just please don't do anything weird or wrong."
"No idea what talk about you." Doris whistled.
Once they were changed, Molly opened the door to head out, but she stopped as she noticed something on the floor of the main hallway. It looked like a dollar, with a note attached to it. The note had writing on it that was strangely weird to her, claw marks and structures she had never seen before. "Demmy... can you read this?"
Demmy walked over, and took the note from Molly. "It's Celestial, and I can read it." She cleared her throat, and began, "'To the Demon Lord and her meaty friend. As much as it pains me to admit, you and the Rhea were invaluable last night. Without you, I would have lost a fun place to hang out at, and good food to enjoy. Just this note of thanks would have been enough, but Karzahni wouldn't stop pestering me to give you a monetary reward, so attached here is the highest form of currency I have to offer. He said you two were having financial issues, so consider this a token of thanks, I guess. You'll have to exchange it for Mites, since this currency isn't used in Mival. From, Tenkarus'."
Demmy then looked at the dollar bill attached, and her one eye went wide. Molly looked at it as well, and her eyes went wide as well. "A HUNDRED TRILLION?!" They both stammered in unison.
"Molly, we're rich!" Demmy began to cackle as she handed her back to the dollar bill. "If the exchange rate isn't too bad, we don't need to keep working here!"
"No, we still should, just in case." Molly tried to talk calmly, but her voice was growing faster as she talked. "But, this is so much money. We can move out of here, and get actual good housing in Mival. Or... actually, we should use this to help fund the repairs for the city. It would be better used that way, but I want to spend just a little bit of this just in case."
"Take to exchanger, will I." Doris snatched the dollar from Molly. "Me trust. Two you ready get. wake up everyone, please don't."
Demmy shifted an eye back to Doris, yet a look from Molly made her relax her gaze. Molly trusted Doris with money, as despite her more... eccentric style, she had always been honest and fair with monetary concerns. "Alright then. We'll head down and tell Wisma where we're heading, and maybe Boris can make us an early breakfast again."
"Demmy, it's not right to keep leaning on him for that. It just seems like exploitation."
"Like how the tickle demon exploits your sides?"
As the two walked down the stairs, Doris gave the dollar bill a closer look. It was a pale blue-ish green, with three rocks stacked up on the right side of the paper. But it was the top which made Doris's eyes narrow. "Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe." She read.
The cheerful smile that had been on her face died in that moment. She took the dollar bill, the hundred trillion bill, and ripped it in half, then in half again, and jammed the remains in her pocket. It would be better if they didn't know the truth. Instead, she'd just sacrifice her last two paychecks and give that over to them. It would be better that way.
