It had been a long night for the city of Mival, and not just for the civilians still coming to grips with the carnage that had unfolded. The city guards were hard at work still searching for survivors, even as the last rays of moonlight dipped below the horizon. The skies above were brightening with purple and pink hues, but everyone's minds were shrouded in darkness.
Who could have done such a thing? Why had this happened, and how had it happened? Mival was supposed to be a city of peace and unity, yet it had become a graveyard for hundreds. The city guards were determined to save as many lives as they could, so no more would be lost to the actions of either a madman, or supernatural forces beyond their recognition.
One such city guard, a large bat like person, soared low across the tops of the buildings. With a forty foot wingspan, each flap was more than enough to keep him airborn. His ears twitched, and his teeth clattered, sending soundwaves across the city. Whatever happened, he could hear it, even the pained breathing of those trapped beneath rubble or potential stragglers of the demon army. No signs of the latter, but plenty of the former, and on this night, twelve such victims had already been rescued thanks to his efforts. Not that he was one to boast. He simply was at his best at night, when sounds were few and the light of the sun wasn't burning his eyes.
His right ear twitched as he flew over the baths. Crying... and it sounded like a little girl. He steered to the right, and descended down into an alleyway. No sooner did he hand, than he realized something wasn't right. The entire alley... it reeked of blood. Not just the pool of it he had landed in, but the only scent he could pick up was human blood, and it was overpowering. Worse, he could see corpses scattered down the alley as far as he could see. Men, women, children, even animals were all dead, and very recent deaths at that. Limbs hacked off, bodies left as shriveled up skeletons... He held his hands up to his nose, and wanted to back out of the alley, to report this here and now... but the crying kept him there. A survivor... This couldn't be the work of the demon invasion, unless... there were stragglers.
He cautiously stepped further into the alley. The sound based picture of the world he saw revealed the source of the cries: a girl, crouched behind a dumpster. It was also where the stench of blood was the strongest. He slowly moved his way around the dumpster, and in the dim light he could see the girl, huddled with her back facing him. "It's okay..." He said, his voice low and slow. "You're safe now. I'm here to help."
"You... You are?" The girl asked.
The bat guard nodded. " Yes. What... What happened here? Who... Who did all this?"
The girl stood, and the bat guard thought he saw a gleam for a fraction of a second. " Not very smart are you? You're talking to it, you damn furry!"
The girl twisted on her heels, and a black blade slashed out at him. Yet, he was already out of range, having leaped back the moment he had noticed the gleam. "Murderer... You're the one Chalodna reported about earlier!" He screeched. "Unish!"
The grey haired girl smirked, the black blade twirling in her hand. " So you do know me. Not bad for a furry. As for this? I was just feasting, but all these people can't quite satisfy my hunger or my blade's hunger. So, why not someone with some actual fight?"
The bat's eyes narrowed, and his claws flexed. " You're a monster, a murderer of innocents! You will pay for the lives you have taken!" He leaped into the air, and swooped in...
Unish twirled again on her feet, and sidestepped the divebomb, but to her surprise, the bat turned in mid-air, and struck out at her with one wing. The wing slammed into her, and she was sent sprawling into a wall. The bat was on her in an instant, and sharp claws swiped at her body. They raked her back, and Unish hissed, and swung her blade to keep him away. The blade parried the claws, and the bat was forced to move back, giving the butcher enough time to rise to her feet. " You're only human, girl. Don't assume you have any chance against me." The bat guard rumbled, before he lunged in again.
A shot fired, and the bat's chest erupted outward in a shower of blood and flesh. The shock of the bullet made him loose his footing, and he fell onto his back. Unish's smirk widened as she put her magnum away. " Gotta love guns. It's the only thing I'll ever give humans respect for, since it makes killing so very easy. " She planted a foot on the bat's neck, and raised up her blade. " And don't fucking call me a girl. I'm far worse than any of the demons who wrecked this place could ever hope to be."
"Then prove it."
The bat lashed out with his arm, and swept Unish off her feet. She twisted her body so she landed on her hands, but the bat was already on her. Claws were met with the blackened blade, and Unish was forced to backpedal as the bat's swings grew faster and more focused. One powerful claw swipe send her arms reeling to the side, and before she could recover fast enough, the bat swung his other wing up into her chin. The jagged claws pushed her head back, and Unish was sent cartwheeling out of the alley, and into an open space, behind the buildings. The bat's eyes focused on his target. Now he wasn't restricted by the narrow alleyspace. There was more than enough room to fully fly, and wear this murderer down. His gunshot wound could be looked at afterwards.
The murderer staggered to her feet. In one hand, the black blade which he noticed seemed to be pulsating, and in the other, a blood coated machete. Her eyes, one behind a cracked monocle, burned with an intensity he had never seen in a living being before. With a feral howl, she charged at him. The bat prepared to fly up out of reach, but to his shock, the woman leaped up after him. He kicked out, but his foot was met with a blade right through it, and the bat screamed in agony. The machete was embedded next to the gun wound, and Unish yanked it down, ripping through the bat's flesh. He tried to shake her off, but she refused to relent. She swung her body upwards, and let her feet kick up into the bat's jaws as hard as she could. The bat felt his fangs crack and shatter from the blow, and he struggled to remain airborn. How... How was she so vicious? When it was just the one blade, she was manageable, but with both... was she more confident holding two blades against him, blades too large for a normal person to wield in such a manner?
Finally a wing once again stick Unish, and she was knocked back onto the ground. With both weapons removed as well, the bat slowly landed, yet a sharp pain shot up his foot. He couldn't stay in the air because of the effort needed, yet it hurt to put pressure on his left foot. Once again, Unish charged in, and the bat was forced to fight on the ground. He swing a wing, but she ducked under it, and slashed upward, only for him to knock the blow back with his other wing. This time, their swings were dead even, neither able to break through the other's offense. Each blade was met with a claw, and each claw was met with a blade. Yet, the bat knew he couldn't keep up. He was losing blood, and it took more and more for him just to keep even. Eventually, she would wear him out, and he wouldn't live to see the morning sun.
He had no other choice.
Unish tried to stab in with both blades, but the bat raised up his knee, and drive it into her groin. The woman's eyes widened, and she nearly dropped her weapons. A shrill cry escaped from her mouth, and she keeled over.
It was the opening he needed.
The bat guard spread both of his wings, then clapped them together. Too engrossed in pain to react, Unish found herself blown back by a shockwave that ripped through the area. The sides of the buildings cracked, and the ground was torn up. Unish crashed into a tree, and the tree split upon impact. As the dust settled, the bat could see that Unish lay in a bleeding sprawl on the ground. Her skin was lined with wood shards and open cuts, and her legs were crossed tight. " At last.... your death comes to you... murderer." The bat growled.
To his shock, Unish managed to look up at him, and despite her face twisted in pain and agony, the words that came from her mouth sounded sweet, a far cry from the rash and violent tone she had before. "Ol om elesa biab, caripe bagilenu zir ol?"
The skies above him darkened, and the bat looked up. It was the last thing he could freely do, as something monstrous crashed down upon him. His bones were shattered upon impact, and where once there had been a guard of Mival, now there was a broken dying corpse of a bat on the grassy floor. "That was boring to watch at first." The newcomer rumbled, as two golden wings spread from tip to tip of the area. Two heads glared down, one at the broken bat, the other at Unish. "But I did enjoy what it became."
"Fuck you too, Phil... I was winning before... that fucking lowshot." Unish winced. She managed to rise to her feet, but her legs were still crossed tight. "Why does it have to hurt for both genders? God, there's no good being a bitch!"
The figure, "Phil", raised his second head slightly and tilted it. From where he was, the bat couldn't make out any details, aside from the massive scaly foot he was pinned under. Blood was covering his eyes, and his vision of the world was filled with pain. " You seem unsurprised by my true form. Are you used to things like this?"
"Of course. I have a... partner back home who looks... sorta like you." Unish grimmanced. "Still, what a pain in the ass. Mind stepping off the furry so I can send him to where the rest of his kind belong?"
The foot was lifted, and the bat realized it was now Unish that hovered over his broken frame. "Do with him as you want. I only wish for revenge against Demogorgon."
"I know, I know. Trust me, this is part of getting to her. Don't get your panties in a bunch." Unish pressed her foot against the bat's neck, and this time, he was powerless to resist. She leaned close to his ear, and whispered in, "G teloc i a aldaraia, od g dax amma norqrasahi" , before the black blade plunged into his chest.
