On the surface, the vast desert that spanned the core of Lemuria was a hostile landscape. The rising suns rays ignited the chill temperatures of the dunes, reaching up to seventy degrees centigrade. For most forms of life, dwelling on the surface during the day was a nigh impossible task; either they had to scurry for shade, or dehydrate and perish under the ruthless sun. This desolate landscape of dunes and ancient lava flows was made all the more hostile by the looming presence of several large dormant volcanoes, among them the towering active frame of Mt. Tamboa. Every so often, plumes of volcanic ash and lava would blast from the crater into the sky, showering the land with molten death and only raising the temperature even further, while filling the air with poisonous gasses. In a world ruled by giants and monsters, even they had to be weary of the destructive powers of the planet itself.
Yet, several dozen miles north of the active volcano, beneath the dead world of the sand and basalt, someone lurked. In what had once been a grand temple lodged in the side of a mountain, the inner chambers had become the dwelling place and the lair for someone who defied the lifeless deserts hostilities. Once sacred pedestals and statues honoring monolithic winged beings had been cut down and replaced with pagan altars, and the dark mist of black magic billowed through the halls and along the floor. Azure flames lined the mossy walls, and rats and centipedes scurried across gathering pools of tainted water. Divine paintings and offering tables were now covered with crimson symbols of sixteen pointed stars and overlapping circles.
This was a den of darkness, and the owner of this defiled sanctuary was oh so happy for it.
"Those stupid Knights are far too active all of a sudden." The figure mused. Their frame was shrouded in darkness, all but unseeable even to the nocturnal creatures that now made this place their home. All they could see was a hand, slender and covered with those same markings reach out for an opened book, and flip through the pages. "I should peer in on them, see what they've amassed, and trash it all. They and their abominations of metal, blasphemies against true order and power! The whole lot of them!"
The hand stopped flipping through pages, and landed upon one in particular. A long sharpened nail ran down the length of the page, through each word and phrase, past incantation and hex alike, before stopping at the bottom. "Yes, there's the one. Raa Sga Omraam!"
For but a moment, a burst of light flowed through the inner chamber, and the brief appearance of a person, a woman, could be seen before the light flickered away. "So, that is what they are doing." The woman hissed, flashing a cackling smile. "Ruining the lives of the innocent and primitive in this world, dragging them away for labor and food for their infernal contraptions! Such is the curse of technology, the bane of the natural and supernatural! They must be punished, brought to the Master of Miracle's judgement and will!"
Suddenly, her hand reached up to her face, and covered her eyes. She seemed to shudder, and her mouth hung slack. Then, she uncovered her eyes. "A vision from you, Master of Miracles! Yes, I saw it, clear as day! The spawn of Tartarus and Gaia, vermin from another world, also here! What a turn of events, to be greeted with the offspring of such powerful demons! And a woman, machine and flesh at once, along with... What is this?"
She staggered forward, now with both her hands over her face. She was still obstructed by the blackness of the caverns, bar the edges of her purple veil. "What... What is... This power, this presence I feel... What is this, I don't understand, but I must! I MUST KNOW!"
She snatched up the open book, and flipped through its pages. The same dark mist began to billow from between its pages, and surged around her frame. The mist spread through the floor, and enveloped the rats and centipedes that tried to scurry away. "Investigate for me, hurry to the south and to the east! Bgumfa Xioq Eiql Umav!" She read, and the black fumes surged out through the caverns, carrying with them the demented laughter of the Blasphemer.
