"Daeuafio raekkio!" bellowed Ragnhild as she turned to face the hound, knifes extended on either side of her like pincers.

But the threat to the duo did not come from the front; rather it came from the least expected spot: from the sides.
In a flash of light, a much larger form swirled into existence besides the already wounded Varul. The monstrous hound here was much bulkier than the one slain before, and was armored in what appeared to be some kind of supernatural ice. The creature slammed into Ragnhild, attempting to bowl it over as it gnashed it jaws towards the wound on her leg.
As this occurred, a second flash appeared beside Gameela and her hound as another hound, smaller than the one assailing the varul, appeared. The creature lunged directly towards the wheelchair bound woman with its flower-like jaws splayed open, aiming to cripple the arm holding her gun...

Ragnhild avoiding another debilitating bite by swinging around and knocking away the petal-like jaws of the abomination with the back of her paw, but its weight- equal to or greater than hers- still crashed into her, sending her onto her back with the beast atop her. Snarling, the varul places both feet against its stomach, wincing as its mass bared down on her injured leg, and kicked up as hard as she could...

A huge mass of fur and muscle slammed into the monstrosity. The rottweiler had leaped to defend his owner taken the fiend with him to the ground. The dog's jaws clenched around the monster's neck with an iron grip, ignoring the shallow cuts left by his opponant's flailing claws. Waterfalls of blood were soon gushing from the monster's torn throat, but still it fought back.
From her chair, Gameela had her firearm drawn towards the two hounds, but she held her fire. The hounds rolled across the cobblestone as they wrestled for dominance, leaving behind a trail of red and black blood. It was impossible to get a clear shot, and like hell she was going to shoot her dog.
She kept her weapon steady as she tried to keep the feind's head in her sights, and waited for an opening.

The varul's kick struck true into the hideous beast's chest, sending the burly creature rocketing backwards onto its back. The beast yelped as it rolled around, attempting to right itself before eventually succeeding in its attempt. Snarling, the creature darted swiftly to the side of Ragnhild before it lunged forward, jaws agape and slobbering, this time aiming to strike at the varul's neck...
The hounds wrestled with one another, struggling for supremacy. The Rottweiler seemed to have the upper hand, however, its jaws clamped around its malformed opponent's neck, protecting it from the creature's dangerous bite. The hound, however, lashed out with a set of sickly black claws, slashing the rottweiler's nose and eyebrow ridge in an attempt to get it to let go.
While this was happening, a powerful force slammed into Gameela's wheelchair, threatening to knock her out of it. The third hound had finally decided to join the fray and had pounced onto her chair, attempting to bite the back of her head...

The icy abomination had its own neck targeted however. Before its jaws connected with Ragnhild's throat, the varul slammed her massive paws onto the hairless, folded scruff of the grisly hound and squeezed. Hard. Back arched reflexively due to the immense pressure on its spinal column, the unnatural hunter was suspended in midair by a grip that seemed capable of supporting ten times as much weight.
"Biokkjkae," Ragnhild insulted with a hateful sneer. She had intended to behead the beast, but realized mid-swing that she had lost her knife in the chaos. The sooner she was rid of these things, the sooner she could reclaim it.
Spinning with a bellow that was half-roar, half-shout, the varul hurled the hound away, sending it tumbling towards its companion leaned against the woman's wheelchair as an arcing, lopsided projectile...

The woman had managed to catch the fiend as it pounced, planting her hand against its neck. She held back its snapping jaws from her face with strength that defied her body, though the effort sent white-hot flares of pain shooting up her spine.
A mass of icy flesh crashed into the hound, tearing it away from her chair as both creatures tumbled to the ground. The woman gripped the wheel of her chair and forced it to turn her around over the cobblestones. Now facing the two hounds, the woman took advantage of their prone positions and fired two shots at the skull of the one that had attacked her...

By the time the lesser hound had managed to right itself from the bone-splitting impact of the alpha crashing into it, it was too late; the bullets of the wheelchair-bound woman found themselves embedded into its skull. A spray of black ichor splattered across the pavement before it collapsed in a limp heap.
Enraged by the death of its packmate, the larger, armored creature whirled towards the duo, before exhaling a cloud of sickly white smoke towards both Gameela and the Varul, before sweeping it towards the Rottweiler in an attempt to help its other surviving packmate...

Ragnhild, distracted locating where she had dropped her knife, was caught fully by the blast of smoke. As if the deathly vapor was a solid wall of fatigue, the varul dropped to her knees with a weak groan. A weakness, a life-sucking agony, identical to that which had radiated from the bite she had received earlier, wracked her. Her fur took on a faint, grayish hue like the wear of age and her joints sang with pain, stressed by her own weight.
Fangs grit, the lupine biped fought through her suffering and reached up for the handle of the massive, golden sword on her back.
She had held back before, but now it was time for these things to taste the might of Foxglove..!

Though the woman tried to avoid the smog, her wheelchair couldn't carry her over the rough cobblestone fast enough. She cried out as fire swept up her arms and legs to engulf every inch of her body, blinding her in pain unlike anything she had ever felt before.
Her cries alerted her dog, which leaped out of the path of the smoke and charged the monster responsible for her pain. Although much smaller than the alpha, the rottweiler was powerful, and his mass slammed into the creature with enough speed to shove it onto the road. Powerful jaws bit into its leg and tore off a strip of decaying meat in their struggle.
The woman's muscles had seized up, paralyzing her to the chair as she scrunched her wet eyes.
Breathe.
Breathe.
The woman felt her chest rise and fall, and focused on that sensation.
There is nothing but your breathes. Empty your thoughts.
Gradually, she felt the pain fade into a distant prickling, and the world around her went silent.
Silver eyes flashed open. The woman's face was unnervingly blank as she raised her weapon to level it with the beast's head...

The alpha snarled angrily as the Rottweiler's jaws bit into its decaying flesh, causing black blood to splatter across the earth. With its other forelimb, the beast struck the Rottweiler across the face, tearing a bloody gash across its cheek and sending it sprawling across the ground. The beast then turned to face Ragnhild, intent on attacking what it seemed to think was the more worthwhile quarry, before it attempted to circle around to the varul's side...
As Gameela leveled her pistol towards the head of the alpha, the smaller hound that had been sounded by her Rottweiler took advantage of her distraction and lunged for her firing arm, intent on crippling her and making her an easy capture...

As the alpha shuffled around Ragnhild, the varul's amber eye snapped open and honed in on the abomination.
"Feiiogr!"
The enormous arm of the wolfish being, staggeringly strong even in its weakened state, tightened, and the tremendous sword on her back was torn from its holder. Over twenty pounds of steel arced towards the hound, the tip of the sword stretching over ten feet between the its impossible size and the varul's prodigious reach...

The hound's jaws locked down on the woman's arm. The gun fired, but the vicious tug caused the shot to miss its target and ricochet off the cobblestone. Even as liquid pain coursed into her veins, however, the woman's expression did not falter.
The woman inhaled. She concentrated on the air flowing through her nostrils, flowing down her her trachea like a gentle river, filling her lungs. She could feel her diaphragm contract and her chest expand as oxygen seeped into her body. And for the briefest of moments, like the flash of a spark from a lighter, the woman felt something stir deep inside her. She concentrated her focus and seized that spark, trapping it in her gut as she willed it to ignite the oxygen she had inhaled into a roaring ball of flame. Every muscle in her body was like a great bow being drawn taut, and the fire that now raged inside her trembled like the arrow against the weight of the draw. The woman hardly noticed her free hand curl into a fist and pull back.
All at once the tension in her body was released. She exhaled with an ear-splitting shout and swung her fist into the beast's face as fire within her raced up her arm.
Her knuckles slammed into the dead flesh with enough force to buckle the hound's legs, and a blinding flash of silver light exploded from the impact of her blow and surged into the abomination's body.
The effect was immediate and dramatic. The hound's legs collapsed under its weight as its muscles fell slack, and its jaws slipped off the woman's arm. In its brow was a crater of ash where the punch had left its mark, and it continued to spread like a terrible acid. The hound's skin, eyes, and flesh cracked, then, flaked, then fell apart entirely into dry crumbs that floated into the wind. Inside the woman's energy caused devastation, reducing its organs and flesh and bones into lifeless dust, and hollow tears and holes formed across its body as it was devoured from within.
When the remains of the hound's chest hit the ground, there was little left but a partial skeleton, black slime, and ash that was quickly dispensed into the surrounding wind.
It was an effect the woman had not been expecting, and it was enough to shock her out of her meditative state.
And the pain from the hound's bite returned like a wildfire.

The larger hound watched as the slab of heavy iron slammed down directly towards her, the tip of the blade whistling through the air as it approached. The hound leapt to the side of the arcing blow, narrowly avoiding being crushed by the slab of sharpened iron. The massive weapon slammed into the stony floor with enough force to crack one of the stones and send a shower of sparks flying through the air. The armored alpha snorted, as if mocking the varul's attempt at wounding it, but the creature suddenly gave pause.
The monster observed as its packmate was slain by the woman, disintegrating into little more than a fine dust. The creature filled with an unbridled rage, as it unleashed a scream that could only be described as a mixture of anger and sadness. Blinded by fury, the beast bowled past Ragnhild and rushed, jaws agape, towards the downed form of Gameela, aiming to crush her skull in its jaws...

The furious bounding of the ghoul was stopped short. Midway through its charge, it suddenly stumbled and fell, its broad chest impacting the ground with a heavy, wet sound. Ragnhild had turned and caught one of its hind legs with her free paw. With a shout of effort, the varul turned, dragging the hound off the ground and into the air, and spun it around. After turning three-fourths of a circle, she released her grip, hurling it belly-first towards a lamp post...

With a furious bark, the rottweiler, injured but determined to protect his owner, took advantage of the varul's throw and charged the stunned alpha. Powerful jaws plunged large canines into the back of the alpha's neck as the dog shook violently, attempting to pin it down long enough for the varul to finish the monster off...
–
Squeezing her fists, the woman again concentrated on her breathing.
Empty your thoughts.
Her jaws clenched as she tried to keep from crying out.
There is no pain.
In and out flowed the air in her lungs.
Up and down heaved her heavy chest.
Soon the thoughts in her head disappeared along with her pain, and a stable hand reached for her weapon.

Severely wounded from Ragnhild's throw and caught off-guard by the assault by the Rottweiler, the great hound decided it had only one remaining option: retreat and regroup at its master's tower. The creature pushed itself to its feet, black blood dripping from the broken chest of the abominable beast, before it slashed the Rottweiler across the chest with its claws, spilling the attack dog's blood across the pavement. When the Rottweiler refused to let go, the larger beast slammed its shoulder into the nearby pole with enough face to daze it, causing the hound to relinquish its grip.
Seeing the approach of its enemies, the monstrous creature quickly vanished In a flash of bright light and a burst of mist, leaving Ragnhild and Gameela behind among the mangled remains of its packmates...

Ragnhild huffed in annoyance. So the freakish, fleshy beast had chosen to flee rather than stay and finish the fight it started. Clicking her fangs and muttering a dark words, the varul swung her massive sword back across her back, clicking its holster back in place with a sweep of her thumb. Her amber eyes then swept the ground in search for her knife, but what they found first was the fallen woman.
The wolfish biped stared for a few moments before loosing a sigh.
As soon as she had her piece back in hand, the woman felt a pressure on her collar. It was not the hound that walked on four legs, biting and grabbing her neck ferociously, but the hound that walked on two, not gently, but slowly, picking her up by her shirt. The woman was swung around and dropped a short distance into her wheelchair, which the varul had kicked back upright.
Without a word to her, Ragnhild turned her back on the woman to search for her knife, a limp rippling through he silvery fur on her weakened leg.

Once most of the pain had ebbed away, the woman reached down into the depths of her coat and withdrew a phone. Though she said nothing to the varul, she watched her weakened leg closely as she pressed the phone against her ear.
"It's Mohab. A varul and I were ambushed on Elmira Street, in Greenwhich. Requesting medical assistance."
She held the phone away from her ear and scowled at the shouting on the other end. "I was walking my dog. Not bandits – monsters. We have a corpse with us."
Mohab stretched out a free hand to scratch her dog as he sat next to her chair. "Then you can tell him. I don't give a damn what Rattan thinks. Just send a damn helicopter. And bring a vet for Montu."
She set the phone in her lap and cupped the speaker with her hand. "They'll be sending someone over in five," she told the Varul. "Those bites deep?"

"Lived worse," the varul rumbled. Her leg continued to tremble though, its gray-tipped fur rippling, so she admitted with a growl, "But probably poison."
