"Eh, it's fine," the varul coughed. "Hear more gasps than apologies, so we're good. 'Sides, we match don't we?"
The tak ran a paw across her chest, making her strange, beautiful coat ripple with light. "Silver and gold, right?"
A blue comet flew from her head as she spoke, but landed several feet wide of the board.
"Marglod, you made me miss," Gabie accused.
"Oh. Sorry, shrimp."

"Your fur is very beautiful," Vesyka agreed, picking up a yellow bean bag. "Oh, I am sorry... we forgot to introduce ourselves. I am Vesyka, and this is–"
Vesyka let out a small scream of surprise as a pair of hand snagged her by the hips from behind and lifted her into the air. "KYRA!" she squealed as she found herself sitting on her friend's shoulders, her legs secured by Kyra's hands. "What are you doing?!"
"Evening the playing field," came a laugh from below as Kyra danced behind the chalk line next to Margold. "The Tower of Gabie against the Tower of Vessy!"

A small hand waved for the embarrassed, silver-haired woman's attention.
"Vesyka," Gabie called, her round face wearing a pleased smirk. "Vesyka! I'm taller than you now."

Kyra stretched up onto her tip toes, but to no avail. Vesyka started to giggle despite her flushing cheeks, placing a small hand against Kyra's scalp to steady herself as she tossed the bean bag at the hole. It missed, overshooting the board once again.
"I do not think I know my own strength, Gabie," she admitted.
Kyra laughed. "Maybe you should be picking me up instead!"

"Think I'll stay down here," Marglod hacked, jostling her head against Gabie, who whined at her and tried pushing her head back down. Huffing dramatically, the golden varul pretended to succumb to her strength.
Once she was steady upon the tak's shoulder again, Gabie threw another sky blue beanbag. It landed square on the center of the board and slid up, directly towards the hole, but halted, becoming stuck on the rim.
Gabie hissed in frustration, but Marglod narrowed her eyes. Securing Gabie with a huge paw, the varul lifted her weight into the air on one leg, then brought the other one crashing down, sending tremors across the ground. The board shuttered, and the beanbag slipped into the hole, landed in the net alongside Kyra's orange one.
"Point!" Marglod crowed.
Gabie joined her, ruffling the shallow crest of fur on her scalp. "We're tied now!"

"That was awesome!" Kyra cheered. "Nice work Gabie!" She carefully snaked the toes of her boot underneath one of the green bean bags, then kicked it up into the air, catching it in her hand and tossing it up to Vesyka. "Try aiming for the bottom, Vessy. See how Gabie did it?"
Holding herself steady with a free hand, Vesyka tossed the bean bag towards the board. Her aim was true, but the bean bag slid up past the hole, sliding off the other side.
"I am getting closer," Vesyka smiled.

"Oh, hello, Marglod," a voice greeted from behind. Renee had returned, a folded tarp under her arm.
The golden tak spun to greet the hairstylist, her tail slapping Kyra's bottom. "Hey, Renee!"
"Here for a trim?" The stylish woman smirked. "Or just to play with Gabie?"
"Hey, why can't it be both? Trim can wait though. We got a game going! Or I can help you set that up."
"That would be lovely, Marglod."
Gabie pulled the varul's ears. "One more points! For the winner."

"I can help out!" offered Kyra to Renee as she crouched down, letting Vesyka slide off her shoulders. She tossed a blue bean bag up to Gabie, then placed another in Vesyka's hands. "Good luck," she winked, before jogging over to help with the tarp.
"How can I help?" she asked Renee. "I can get to the high areas pretty easy."

Plucking Gabie off her shoulder, Marglod set her down next to Vesyka.
"Nah," the varul drawled. "Ain't gonna leave me behind. Three sets of hands are better than two."
Renee smiled. "Thanks to both of you then."

With speed and grace that would be more common in a pientan, Kyra jumped and hoisted herself up to the roof, above the storefront window. She laid down on her stomach, her arms hanging down off the side of the roof. "Pass up one of the corners and some tools I can attach it up here."
"One last point for the winner?" Vesyka asked Gabie with a smile.

"Okay," Gabie nodded, prancing back into position. Rearing her arm back and arching her back as if she intended to throw herself at the hole, not just the bean bag, the child teetered forward and gave a tremendous throw. The bean bag spiraled up in the air, flying excessively high, but- by luck or perhaps a lot of practice- landed straight in the hole.
Gabie jumped for joy. "I won! Momma, I won!"
"Good job, Gab," Renee smiled as she stretched some nails and a hammer up towards Kyra. She could not quite reach, but a huge golden paw intercepted them and finished the job, planting them heavily besides Kyra- and keeping a nail for herself.
"I'll get the other side," Marglod grumbled. The huge tak used her other lengthy arm to lift the tarp, holding it high so one of its corners dangled in front of Kyra.

Vesyka's last bean bag, meanwhile, hit the top of the board, just short of the hole.
"I think you will have to teach me," the small woman giggled in spite her loss.
After thanking the varul and hammering her end of the tarp into place, Kyra slid off the roof and landed lightly on the ground below.
"Hope it's not too much to replace," she commented, looking around to observe the damage. "Maybe we can come back this afternoon and give you some business? Vessy and I have both been out in the wild for the last month. We could use a clean up."

Renee smiled. "You both have beautiful hair. So much texture. I'd love to work with it if you'd let me."
"Hey, maybe I'll see you," rasped Marglod. She had driven her nail in with the palm of her paw, which she now massaged with a thumb. The skin was not broken, but it was scuffed. "All this fur takes a while to trim."
Gabie nodded sagely. "She leaves giant piles of hair. Sometimes they're as tall as me."

Kyra laughed. "Good thing she has you two to look after her, then. Bet it gets hot here, yeah? I like the sun but I might change my mind if I had a fur coat."
Still blushing silently for the compliment given to her hair, Vesyka pulled the heavy shopping kart from where it had been parked. "I am looking forward to seeing you again," she smiled towards Gabie.

Some shyness seemed to wash back over Gabie, because all she could do was shuffle her feet and utter a small, "Bye" in response. Her mother laughed and ran a hand over her head as she said her own farewell.
"We're looking forward to it," the hairdresser smiled warmly.
"And I'd have left the north even sooner if I was almost naked like you!" Marglod laughed back at Kyra.

Gabie's shyness only turned Vesyka's soft smile into a rare grin. She waved goodbye and made for the shopping cart as Kyra sent Gabie a wink.
"See you around," the Fox told her. Her green eyes flashed up at Marglod and Renee. "You two as well. Take care, yeah?"

"Hey, I'll look out for them!" Marglod laughed, throwing a huge arm around Renee, who chuckled in response.
"We're all looking forward to your visit," the hairdresser and mother informed them, smiling warmly.
