“Who knows why our world is so cold? Is it the will of the Aspects, to test our resolve? Is the world cursed by those beneath the deep dark sea? Is it the Dragon of Death’s doing? Or perhaps are we simply far from the warm stars?”
Leaving a few moments for the woman to ponder these on her own, Roanauk then answered her next question: who he was.
“I am Roanauk, High Chieftain of Vinterhost Village. Or at least I used to be. The world has changed so much since I last walked its frozen surface…”

The woman shivered, her scales shimmering in the dim light that shone through the cracks of the aging vessel. "I am Nasalja, former ruler of Sheol... Though, I guess you wouldn't know what tha-"
She stopped. Her eyes looked past Roanauk, to the great skeletal head that broke through the other side of the wall. "My gods... Mondo! How long have... Oh god, Mondo. How did he..."

Indeed, Roanauk had no idea what a “Sheol” was.
He turned around to follow the strange woman’s gaze and saw the massive skull he had noticed earlier. He raised an eyebrow and glanced back to Nasalja.
“Friend of yours?” he asked. “If so, my condolences.”

Nasalja was shaking, but it was from more than just the cold. "Yes... He was our guardian, our protector. He kept us safe on the ship when we fled..."

"Hm," Roanauk muttered as he scratched his chin. "I have never heard of such a Beast. He must have been a new one... beyond my time. Or... before?"
Realizing he had confused himself, the bison dismissed his train of thought with a grunt.

"He... He was rough around the edges, crude, mean at times, but he was still our protector when we were driven from our home. To see him like this..." Nasalja's head hung low. "If he's dead... Oh, please let everyone else be okay, please!"
She slithered toward the other tubes, and tried to peer inside. All she could see was ice in the first one. Whoever had been within it was nothing more than a popsicle. "Oh gods, please no..."

Roanauk felt sorry for the scaly female.
"You were the only one I have seen so far that was alive," he gently told her, sorrow in his voice.

Nasalja's breath became more labored, more panicked as she slithered over to the next tube, and the one after that. It was the same story for each one she frequented; A tomb of ice.
"No... Please, no. Everyone can't be... Everyone can't be-"
She stopped. She was at the last tube in the room, and thought there was a layer of ice over it, it was much thinner than the others, to where she could actually see within. She raised her tail, and smashed it through the glass of the tube. She winced from the ice and glass shards embedded in her tail, but it was nothing compared to the relief she felt as the liquid flowed out, and with it, the person that had been inside.

Roanauk frowned at the sight of the scaly female being injured by the shattered glass, but his attention quickly turned to the liquid and the person it contained. He approached the fallen creature to check on them...

The figure was a girl, smaller than either Roanauk or Nasalja. Her hair was a pale grey and bunched into a pair of buns, and as she coughed up fluid and looked up, Roanauk could see her yellow eyes lock onto him. She staggered back, but it was a weak attempt as she slipped and collapsed once more. 'Wha, who, how?!" She coughed weakly.
"Tereza! Thank the gods you're alive!" Nasalja smiled and hugged the girl. "I was scared you were dead with everyone else."
"Nasalja, I'm... I'm fine." The girl managed to stand up once Nasalja let her go. The lime green sweater and black pants she wore were dripping with fluid, but she didn't seem to mind. "But, where is here? What happened, and who is this you're with? Where's Mondo?" She asked, as she noticed the cloud of cold air that came from her mouth.

Though he was glad to see the new creature was alive and well, Roanauk's happiness quickly took a hit when he realized he would have to be the bringer of bad news.
"Your friend, Mondo... he is no more. I am sorry," the white bison said, sorrow in his voice.

"H-he's dead?! Mondo... is dead?!"
Nasalja nodded and pointed her friend to the corpse that had crashed through the wall. Tereza's eyes widened as the realization hit her. Her hands covered her mouth, and she nearly fell to her knees.
"S-so... it's just us. Us two as the survivors. To think Tyralus and Karzahni nearly got their wish." Tereza shivered in the cold. "We were so certain we would be safe, away from that madhouse-"
"We are now, but... I promised them we would all see that safety alive, and I failed at that promise." Nasalja's eyes drooped, and she shuddered. "We just wanted peace, but all that follows is death."
